Hello Reception Families and Friends!
What a roaring week we’ve had in Reception! Our classroom has been transformed into a dinosaur wonderland as we’ve explored all things prehistoric, and the children have loved every minute of it.
From the moment we started the week, the children have been fully immersed in dinosaur-themed activities. Inspired by our class dinosaur eggs, we’ve enjoyed creative play, storytelling, and even some dino-inspired art. It’s been wonderful to see the children’s imaginations run wild as they’ve learned fun facts about these incredible creatures.
A Special Visitor
On Wednesday, we had a very exciting visitor—Roari the Raptor! He came to visit our class and gifted us our very own POW Passports. The children were thrilled, and Roari’s visit sparked lots of curious questions and discussions about dinosaurs.
We have also been exploring subitising—the skill of recognising a number instantly without counting, like seeing dots on a dice. This week, our focus has been on numbers 0–3. The children have been practising spotting these numbers in different arrangements and have impressed us with their quick recognition skills.
On Friday, the children designed our very own class Pumpkin Soup! We discussed and collectively decided which vegetables to include, and we’re looking forward to making it together in a future cooking lesson. It was a fantastic way to practise teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills.
A huge thank you to all of you for your continued support at home—it really makes such a difference to the children’s learning and confidence. Your encouragement with reading, phonics, and sharing in our class adventures helps them thrive and makes Reception such a happy place to be.
Reminder: Don’t forget that tomorrow morning is school photos, so please ensure your little ones come in looking their best and ready to smile!
Many thanks,
Miss Godden and The Reception Team
