Bon Voyage!

Hello everyone,

Apologies it has taken me so long to write a final blog for the reception class of 13/14! I hope you're all enjoying your summer holidays and recharging your batteries ready for a new year.
I would just like to say a massive thank you to children, parents and grandparents for their fantastic support this year. It has been brilliant to work with all of your children and I believe they have all really grown - both physically and in character. With this being my first full year with the same class, I don't think I could've asked for a better class and I wish all of them the very best of luck for next year!
Finally, Thank you for all the really thoughtful gifts you gave us!

Thank you,

Summer reading challenge!

Hello everyone,

We had a special assembly this week where a member of staff from the library service introduced the summer reading challenge, named 'Mythical Maze'. The reading challenge has been going for a number of years and you may be familiar with it but if not...

You will have to pop to your local library and over the summer, read (or be read to) 6 books. As the theme suggests, there will be lots of books available around myths and adventures - although you do not have to read this genre of books. Every time you read a book make sure you tell someone who works at the library and you will receive various rewards. The challenge ends in September and there will be a certificate given out at school for all children that have successfully completed 6 books!

It would be fantastic if we could get as many children doing this as possible! Reading is a crucial skill and this event is designed to get children to enjoy their reading. Any parental support with this would  be much appreciated.

More information can be found here: http://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk.

Reception and pre-school BBQ

Hello everyone,

Hopefully you'll all be aware that tomorrow is the reception and pre-school BBQ. Lots of you have returned your slips to let us know about numbers etc. so thank you. The BBQ will officially begin at 15.30pm tomorrow. However, reception children will be involved in helping to set up and prepare the food. It will be held in the reception outdoor area so please feel free to stay and sit down! If you have not brought your slip back into school to say that you are coming and would like to, please see a member of the reception team tomorrow.

A few bits and pieces...

Hello everyone,

As we are nearing the end of the year, there are a few bits and pieces that we would be grateful for any help with:-

Could we please ask that all children bring their group reading book back into school. As well as this could you please make sure that your child's sound pot is in their book bag. We will go through them and take them so please don't worry about giving the to us.
If you are able to, it would be helpful if you were to put any library books back in the library. If this is not possible, we will do it.
On Thursday, we will be sending home children's PE kits. We have been through them today and made sure that each child has got their own PE kit - if they have not, we will let you know.
On Friday we will be making sure that all trays are empty and all art work goes home with each child. All art work is in folders. Children's learning journeys will go up to year 1 for Mrs. Thorpe to look at. They will be given to you in September once the class has settled.

Thank you for any help with this.

The last week...

Hello everyone,

Well we're finally here! The last week in reception! This week we are looking at electricity and magnetism.  The children were introduced to electricity today and all showed some super knowledge about what is electrical and what is not electrical. There were then several jobs the children could do independently - they could try and make a circuit work by experimenting with the different components. They could also experiment with balloons and static electricity. Needless to say, most children enjoyed making their hair go up. We will also be making electromagnets this week.
We also began cooking today, in preparation for our BBQ on Wednesday after school. Each group of children will be helping to make something. It will either be; burgers, wedges/jacket potatoes or carrot sticks. The BBQ will be taking place in the reception outdoor area.

Hello everyone,

Just a reminder that tomorrow is reception's class assembly. Please feel free to head into the hall after drop-off tomorrow morning. The assembly will hopefully be starting at 9.20am.

Next week is the last week until we break up for the summer holidays. We will be collecting things in from the children and giving them an awful lot of things to take home! Could we please ask that all children have their group reading books and their sound pots in their book bags - thank you!

Assembly lines

Hello everyone,

Just a quick note that most children will have their line(s) for the class assembly with them! They were given out yesterday in school and we have practised going through the assembly so they know where their part fits in. Any help with learning lines will be much appreciated and welcomed. Thank you.

Sports morning!

Hello everyone,

A MASSIVE well done has to go to the reception class for their efforts in the sports morning today. It was great to see so many parents there to cheer along all members of the class - thank you very much. The children showed fantastic spirit and concentration to remain focused for such a long period of time! Every child will be receiving a certificate tomorrow to celebrate their participation in the event. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams in each of the races will also receive a certificate.

For the remainder of the week we are going to be making our own cereal boxes and looking at all the things we need to do to live a healthy life. It would be fantastic if everyone could set themselves the challenge to eat something healthy that they haven't tried before. Write it down on a Wow! Moment and bring it into school so we can share it with the rest of the class.

Lastly, the children were given the choice to decide the topic that we cover next week. There were some super suggestions but the winner was electricity and magnetism! Not what I expected! Looking forward to that.

20th Anniversary Book

If anyone would like to sign the 20th Anniversary Book it is outside the Office, please come and add a comment or memory to share.

We also have a few items of lost property from Saturday night, please check the boxes in the foyer.

The end of a busy week, the beginning of another...

Hello everyone,

Today was reception's Gambia day. The children could chose from a variety of jobs and they all showed real creativity and determination to see a job through. They are all looking ready for year 1! All the children have also looked over lots of photos taken throughout the year and written what their favourite moment was.
Next week, we have lots of things to look forward to. On Monday we will be having our sports morning with year 1. Parents are invited to come along and watch - we will be starting at about 9.30am. Could we please ask that all children have their PE kits in school on Monday - including trainers or pumps.
Next Wednesday and Thursday, each half of the class will be heading to Tesco's for an insight into how the shop operates. This will also tie in with the school theme of 'Healthy living' - more on that to follow.
And THEN! Its our final class assembly on Friday - at 9.20am. We've been busy making a video to show you this week and look forward to seeing you all to celebrate the achievements that all children have accomplished this year.

Enjoy the weekend - especially the school's 20th birthday party tomorrow!

Well done to all musicians...

I just wanted to say well done to all musicians who have performed over the last two weeks; they have shown true skills in developing their confidence in performing, showing good progress over the school year and enjoyment in learning! Thank you also to parents for all the support; it truly makes a huge difference.

Honeybrook Farm

Hello all,

We've had a fantastic day in the sunshine today. We hopped on a coach and headed to Honeybrook farm. When we arrived, the children were given a tour of the farm and shown all the different animals and their uses. We then enjoyed a lovely lunch in an outdoor area before having a tractor ride and playing in the park. All the children came prepared for the trip in terms of hats and sun cream so thank you all very much!

Next Monday is receptions sports morning. You are all invited to come along and watch your child do a mixture of skills games and races. We've been busy preparing in our PE lessons and are keen to show you what we've been up to. All being well, it should start at about 9.30am.

This Friday we are having a special Gambia day. This work will be built on in future years. Every child will have the chance to involve themselves in 5 different jobs including: Looking at Fairtrade, focusing on the characters from the story 'Fatou Fetch the Water', making a fruit salad, looking at how wells work and looking at Baobab trees.

PS - tomorrow is bump up afternoon so your child will be spending the afternoon with their new teacher! You will still be picking your child up as normal.
