Reception - final week!

 Hello to you all!

Can you believe we are about to embark on our final week of the Autumn Term! Your amazing children have completed their first term at school! Wow - do take time to reflect on just how far they have come in these few months! We have seen tremendous progress in ALL children across a multitude of areas, both Prime Areas and Specific Areas alike!

Ofcourse, in true Prince of Wales style, this week will NOT be a quiet one! There are many things we have had to adapt this year with relation to PoW Christmas traditions, however we were determined that this Christmas would be even more magical...............so watch this space for an alternative Christmas show!

Tuesday evening is the virtual Christmas Carols

Wednesday is Christmas Dinner Day - I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!

Thursday we have 2 surprise visitors! In the evening, at 5pm, is the virtual Christmas Quiz!

Friday is Christmas Party Day - children may wear home clothes, they CAN BRING IN A TOY FROM HOME  ( please may I ask that it isn't a sword/toy gun or anything of that nature) - also DON'T FORGET on this day, can you pack some extra treats in their lunch box and wrap it up like a present? It is also the end of term awards assembly, so do tune in to watch!

Home Learning: Power Maths - please could you complete pages 14-17 by the end of this week and then over Christmas you may complete the book! Vocabulary we are using at the moment = more, less, fewer, first, then and now.

PLEASE CAN YOU RETURN THE PLASTIC WALLETS WE GAVE YOU! We will be sending home your child's very special magical achievements book on Thursday inside the wallets so that you can share them together over christmas - information will come home with them about how you can add to them over the holiday. Children will also bring home their individual RWInc assessment sheet which will show you where your child is and how you can help them work towards the next level. Please can all library books be returned by Thursday so that children can bring some home for the holiday.

See you all tomorrow,

Mrs. J, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hibberd

Reception - week commencing 7th December 2020

Reception were entranced and captivated by the performance of The Elves and the Shoemaker on Monday. This launched our week as elves in Santa's workshop...........making presents and wrapping them (in the junk modelling area) - excellent using and applying of maths skills was observed here where children thought carefully about the shape of their gift and cut the appropriate shape and quantity of paper before wrapping it independently;cards have been created, collage father christmas portraits and fork christmas tree paintings are adorning our classroom, Santa letters are almost written, the ice cave has inspired some poetic writing, the home corner has been decorated and lit up a multitude of times, christmas baubles have been sorted and the vocabulary fewest, least and most have been used to describe them, tinsel has been measured in order to answer my problem - which colour is the longest, quiet time has been enjoyed in our christmas reading den as well as our Power Maths this week. In Power Maths we are exploring number stories using the words, "first there were........then one more came, now there are........."

Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Hibberd and I enjoyed a truly magical and very special "books at bedtime!" The Winterland at night was enchanting with the falling snowflakes and the twinkling lights. The children loved seeing Stickman, listening to stories, sipping hot chocolate, exploring the Winterland as nocturnal animals, singing songs and playing the sleeping snowflake game. Thank you Reception!

Tomorrow is Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day, children may wear home clothes with their christms jumper.

Please may I suggest all children have a pair of wellies they leave in school. Every lunchtime we have an outside slot where we are able to have the entire school field to run and play on but, as you can imagine at this time of year, it is quite muddy! Therefore we do change them into their wellies for this. They absolutely love playing on the field but we don't change them into all in one suits for this, these are for rainy days when the children want to go out. Do feel free to ask for second hand uniform at very reasonable prices if your child does tend to come home a "little" muddy!!!!!! Failing that, do feel free to send them in in leggings or tatty joggers and old trainers that can get messy!

Home Learning: I read in one response to the Parent Questionnaire that more home Learning was asked for - If you think that you would like further work than the Power Maths and RWInc books please do contact me directly. We always encourage learning through play as the preferred and most beneficial method of learning for the EYFS. As I have said before, children need to be read to and to have rich, outdoor experiences that provide opportunities to communicate and develop language and vocabulary;the impact of this will be evident in their writing when they are further up the school. Please also use the New EYFS Curriculum, that you were all given, to further enrich home learning and send in related WoWs.

Please return the plastic wallets we sent home so that we can send your child's current RWInc assessment along with their special "Magical Achievements" book for you to share together.

Check out Waterstones for some wonderful Christmas gift ideas! I particularly like the Gift Books section!

Many thanks for all your support - as always do email me or speak to me if you have any queries.

See you all tomorrow!

Tuesday 1 December 2020

Reception Tuesday 1st December 2020........coming up + a reminder!

 Good evening,

The children have been captivated by the Nativity story this week; a group of children even performed the story infront of the class with singing too! It made our day - Mr. Spracklen was even invited to watch!

Good news! Dave was returned, wrapped as a present and delivered by Father Christmas along with Jingle the elf. We have a hotline in Reception where we can ring Father Christmas and keep him informed about Jingle's behaviour! We even learned some signs for Christmas too today!

Mrs. Smith will be carrying out our half termly RWInc assessments next week. You will recall at the parent consultation evenings we shared with you how many sounds your child/children had obtained. Following this assessment you will receive a detailed document showing you exactly where your child and what they need to be able to do to reach the next colour. This will then enable us to lead 3 x RWInc workshops straight after Christmas where you will be able to participate in the lesson that is specific to your child's stage. Please do not forget that BY THE END OF RECEPTION children should be at the red/green stage.

We hope you are enjoying the library books together and are finding the power maths work book useful in enabling you to see exactly what we have been learning about in class during the week. At the end of next week we will be sending home each child's Magical Achievement book for you to share together - you will be invited to add some pages of your own.

Don't forget, every opportunity to play, explore, discover, test, take risks is a chance to learn, and those moments shared together are priceless! Please share these moments of home learning with us as the children are so proud to stand up and talk about them. PLAY IS HOME LEARNING!

NEXT WEDNESDAY, Reception children are invited to come back to school from 5pm-6pm, wearing their pyjamas, dressing gowns, onesies and slippers in order to enjoy stories around the Christmas tree whilst also sipping hot chocolate and experiencing the magical lit up wonderland in the dark. Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Hibberd and myself will greet each child at the back hall doors, where you will also be able to collect them at 6pm. Children may also bring a favourite teddy, blanket and or cushion.

A reminder: Please, if you haven't already, may you complete the Parent Questionnaire. These are really important as we use them to celebrate successes in the school and also to develop and grow from. If you do have any concerns that you raise on the questionnaire, I would also ask that you email me directly to share these as well so that we can address concerns directly and move forward.

See you all tomorrow,

Mrs. J, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hibberd

Reception..........watch out the Grinch is about!

Pirate boot-camp was successfully completed on Thursday and I am pleased to say that all of Reception have been recruited as the new crew on the Jolly Johnson pirate ship! Stretching, rolling, jumping, climbing  up, over and through, swinging and lots of risk taking.........

We celebrated our treat afternoon by watching the Grinch cartoon and nibbling some yummy, scrumptious pop-corn and cake! It was strange because the very next day the real Grinch appeared at school trying to steal our Christmas! We had a top secret, whole school assembly thinking of a plan to convince the Grinch to keep Christmas!!!!! ............watch this space!!!!!!!!!!!!

Home Learning: Share and enjoy library books, Read RWInc book daily, Power Maths work book week 2.

I think an exciting day may be brewing for tomorrow.................

...................see you all in the morning!

Reception, Wednesday 18th November 2020

What a drizzly day! It certainly didn't stop us having fun in the rain!

The children are truly blowing us away with their learning in RWInc and Power Maths. The pace at which they are learning is "shamazing"!!!!!!! We have been learning about the Nativity story and practising singing Away in a Manger, ready for filming next Tuesday. We invited Mr. Spracklen to come and be an audience for us and he was simply astounded by the confidence and beautiful, tuneful singing!

Please return library books and RWInc books TOMORROW - thank you!

Treat afternoon tomorrow; we have been counting down the sleeps! Yippee!

See you all tomorrow.
