recycling

Recycling Christmas Cards in the New Year

Please help us recycle your Christmas cards for the Woodland Trust Scheme.
We're asking you to recycle your Christmas cards to help us turn your cards into trees!

For every 1,000 cards dropped in to Marks & Spencer stores for recycling throughout January 2017, a new tree can be planted!

In the New Year, please bring any Christmas cards to the foyer outside the school office where there will be a bin. Do bunch these together and place a slip with the amount you are posting into our bin - this way the children will be able to calculate quickly whether we have collected enough to plant one or two trees. Please do not put loose cards in. The recycling bin will be in the foyer form the start of term. If you can, please do support this worthwhile venture. We will then make arrangements for the cards to be transported to Marks & Spencer at the end of the January 2017.

We wonder how many trees we can donate?!

Image result for tomorrow

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow morning we will have all children's PE bags out on the tables with their things that they need to get changed into for the Christmas play. We have had a couple of attempts today but any help in the morning would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. This will be the case for the next few days whilst we are doing the plays. Children can then go onto their Teddy Job once they are changed.

Technology day (9/12/16)

A ‘Christmassy, art and crafty’ day was enjoyed by all on Friday 9th December. It was the POW school annual ‘Technology day’ when children select three activities in which they wish to create a Christmas themed piece of art/ design work.  The manner in which children moved around the school, worked well within the mixed up age groups was superb. All children were displaying our resilient tortoise in tackling activities and the older children were lending a hand in helping organise the younger children’s work, showing the next steps in how to produce an item. Super skills from one and all! Some products made have been added to this blog.

Thank you finally to all parents who managed to join for some/ or all of the day, the extra pairs of hands very much helped!

Hello everyone,

We have been very busy learning our Christmas play this week and the children have been showing us their fantastic concentration and patience so a big pat on the back for this! If you haven't got your tickets yet, please head to the office and they will be able to help you. The play will be on next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday! We look forward to seeing lots of you there!

This Friday is Christmas Technology Day in school. This is a whole day where children head off to different parts of the school to work with different adults doing different activities, using various skills and techniques. All the reception children have chosen their 3 choices for the day and will hopefully be able to bring all the things that they make on Friday home with them! If you want to send your child into school with a bag then please pop it in their tray or bookbag.

If there is anyone who is available to help for the day, or part of the day, then please come and let us know! It is a busy, fun day that children enjoy taking part in.

Christmas fair, 2nd December

What a busy, Christmassy feel to the school yesterday evening! The school was full of children and our families making the realisation that Christmas is nearly knocking on our doors!

The school would like to thank you for your support, for the goodies donated and for spending those pennies! All which will be ploughed into making the children's learning and environments a richer place to learn in.

A huge thank you also to everyone who has helped in preparing for the Christmas fair, preparations, laying out and running stalls to tidying up at the end. Thank you to POWSA.

Hello everyone,

We are still pressing on with learning our new sounds, despite the festive season being here! The sounds for this week are below. We are also beginning to have a closer look at writing cursive letter shapes. These can be complex to begin with but we will really be getting stuck in from January! More to follow.

'ai' as in aim - Cup hand over ear and say ai, ai, ai.
'ee' as in green - Put hands on head as if ears on a donkey and say eeyore, eeyore.
'igh' as in night - Stand to attention and salute, saying ie ie. (or point to eye)

Please do bring in any home learning that children do at home because we love to see it and show it to the class if children want to!

Reception - Home learning for 'The Gruffalo'

Image result for gruffalo

Hi all,

As we move further and further into the year we are increasing the amount of time that children are working on tasks and activities set by the adults in the classroom. Children will be taught the skills needed to be successful and given the tools they need to help them learn! We are always encouraging independence in learning and we are seeing some very positive attitudes so far! Any learning that takes place at home is fantastic to us and we would love to see anything that you have made, written, or drawn at home!
With that in mind, we have put some potential home learning ideas down below for you to have a go at! Home learning in reception is not compulsory but can be a great way to show children early on the importance and value of learning at home. We've linked most of the ideas below to our current topic of the Gruffalo...

  • Create your own creature like the Gruffalo! You could then challenge yourself to add some labels to describe the different features.
  • Find 2 rhyming words for each of these words: Fox, Mouse & Snake.
  • Find out one piece of information about either a fox, a mouse, an owl or a snake.
  • Write the word 'Gruffalo' in as interesting way as you can.
  • Find 5 different numbers around your house and write them down, i.e door number

As previously said, it is not an expectation for children to bring in home learning and please don't feel like you have to complete every one of the above activities! Just one would be brilliant. There is also no deadline for bringing bits in! We hope to see lots of different pieces of home learning! Thank you.
