Reception: Half-Term optional home learning

Optional #InspiredToLearn Half-Term Home Learning:  Mythical Creatures

Our learning power for the rest of the Summer Term is ‘Renee the Reciprocal Bee’.

Over half term look out for ‘WOW!’ moments that include Renee’s learning power. Write them on a ‘WOW’ and send them into school to be shared.

Other suggested activities -

Continue to share a story everyday. You can practice your Book Bag Book or enjoy listening to your library book being read to you. Our Early Learning Goal focuses on comprehension:

Children at the expected level of development will: - Demonstrate understanding of what has been read to them by retelling stories and narratives using their own words and recently introduced vocabulary; - Anticipate – where appropriate – key events in stories; - Use and understand recently introduced vocabulary during discussions about stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems and during role-play.

Listening to stories being read to you, and adults asking you questions about the story is a great way to achieve this goal. You could always act it out together too! Do send a wow moment in, if you have been practising this at home.

Our maths learning after half term will be odd and even numbers, shape, capacity, time and numbers to 20.

And finally…

A CREATIVE CHALLENGE -

A mythical creature has been seen near the Prince of Wales School! We are not quite sure what it is and need your help to investigate what it could be!

Can you draw, paint, create/make a mythical creature of your own at home.

If you are feeling particularly clever you could label it or even go so far as to write a fact file about it.

What does it look like?

Like to eat?

Where does it live?

How old is it?

How tall or small is it?

The possibilities are endless!!

Happy half term!

 Hello Reception families

What a busy and exciting end to this half term we have had! This week we have been to the farm and have also found time to squeeze in lots of learning AND celebrate the jubilee in style! In the classroom we have been:

Making minibeasts

Finishing off a picture of the queen

Finger painting flags

Mr Bascombe did a site inspection and told the builders that their building was not safe and they needed some safety signs. They set to work immediately and were very animated when Mr Bascombe came to check again!

Investigating the water wall

Making Jubilee crowns

What a wonderful end to a very busy week.

Thank you to all families for making me feel so welcome in my first few weeks here at the Prince of Wales School.

We're looking forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday 7th June.

Reception Farm Visit

What a wonderful morning we had at the farm. Hazel met us at the farm classroom and we found out about all the animals that live there. We also found out that there are lots of minibeasts that live on the farm too.  Our first stop was to have a look around the farm; looking at different machinery, animal habitats and flora and fauna. We then made our way to the lambs where we investigated their wool and  watched them feeding from their milk bottles. After this, we went to see the cows and found out that they are beef cows. They are also a bit mucky and we learnt that their cow poo and straw is used on the fields - it's called muck spreading and its very smelly! Finally we set off for the pigs. We fed them our leftover fruit peels from our snack! Before we knew it, it was time to walk back to school. The children were amazing and were on their feet the whole time. The muddy puddles were a big hit! I think we may have some tired children tonight! Thank you to the parents and volunteers that helped on our trip and to Mr Spracklen who came with us too. Mrs March really enjoyed her first trip to the farm with the class and can't wait to go again soon!

Hello Families

Just a quick reminder to let you know we are off to the farm tomorrow. Please send your child in the appropriate clothing for the visit. The weather looks OK but please pack for all weathers! We have lots of wellies at school, so if you think your child's wellies are here then they can change into them when they get in.

Thank you to those of you who are able to come and help us. We are really looking forward to it.

Here are some photos of our busy start to the week.

We have been investigating how the water wall works.

Taking on a minibeast writing challenge.

Rescuing minibeasts from the spider web using tweezers.

Busy Week

Hello families!

What an incredibly busy week we have had in Reception! The children have coped really well with the changes and are enjoying exploring the classroom to find out where things are and how to use them.

They have shown great respect for the toys and resources following Mr Spracklen’s assembly this week too.

The school day itself hasn’t changed and the children have been busy learning in their usual way.

Highlights of the week have been:

- Learning about doubles in maths and practicing in their own learning time

- Using the pipettes in the water tray (excellent use of fine motor skills)

- Some seriously good building and decorating of sandcastles using the buckets and spades (thank you for the loan Pre- School)

- Making some crazy looking mini beasts in the play dough (while discussing all the parts a mini beast has)

- Not just building in the Lego but becoming designers too

- Showing off our handwriting and letter formation skills

- Painting symmetrical butterflies (and looking for doubles)

- Playing with the mini beasts, making them homes and discussing what they are

- Playing with the mini beasts, making them homes and discussing what they are.

Don’t forget you can still return decorated bunting ready for our jubilee celebrations next week.

Remember to wear something red, white and/or blue to school on Friday and bring your specially packed royal lunch too.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sunday 15 May 2022

Hello Reception families

 Hello Reception families,

We hope you have had a lovely weekend enjoying the sun and the rain! We are very excited about the spring clean the classroom has had and look forward to sharing it with everyone tomorrow.

This week we will be learning about doubling numbers and numerical patterns. We will be checking that the children can recognise numerals to 10 and if they can recognise an amount without counting every object.

In our Read Write Inc lessons the children are continuing to learn digraphs and they will have the opportunity to read and write them in their learning time.

We are also busy learning about minibeasts. There will be lots of opportunities to learn, make, read and investigate them during the week. We will be painting butterflies and ladybirds to add double spots to, as well as creating our own minibeasts using a range of materials.

There will, of course, be lots of time for the children to follow their own interests too.

We are already excited to share some of their learning with you later on in the week.

Home Learning

Don't forget to decorate your bunting and return to school on Wednesday. If you need another sheet please ask.

Notices

As the weather is getting warmer please remember to apply sun cream to your child and pack a sun hat for them.

Please can toys be left at home unless absolutely necessary. We have lots of lovely teddies and toys for the children to use at school and wouldn't want anything to happen to their special toys in school.

Remember that on PE days children will still arrive in school uniform and change into their PE kit at school. The same for Forest school on Wednesday where they will only need a change of bottoms and wellies/sturdy shoes. Please provide these in a named bag/rucksack to be left in their lockers.
If possible, please ensure snack boxes fit in their school trays, a box that is not too tall.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow and to another exciting week of learning.
