Reception Thursday 30th April 2020

It's nearly disco time........I can't wait........I hope you have been practising your moves ready for tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!

Next week..................

We have the final week of our ant focus learning!
Mrs. Smith and I hope to make a delivery/exchange of RWInc books and Learning Journeys so that you can add any learning or memories from these last few weeks.
I will be setting a challenge, via the blog, to learn a poem of your choice and be recorded reciting it!

Adults: here are a rainbow of riddles to keep you thinking.........

I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have no body, but I come alive with wind. What am I?

You measure my life in hours and I serve you by expiring. I'm quick when I'm thin and slow when I'm fat. The wind is my enemy.

I have cities, but no houses. I have mountains, but no trees. I have water, but no fish. What am I?

What is seen in the middle of March and April that can't be seen at the beginning or end of either month?

You see a boat filled with people. It has not sunk, but when you look again you don't see a single person on the boat. Why?

A woman shoots her husband, then holds him underwater for five minutes. Next, she hangs him. Right after, they enjoy a lovely dinner. Explain.

What can travel around the world while staying in a corner?

A song from Mrs. Smih and I for all you fantastical, amazing PoW families...........Don't Give Up!  xx

Reception Saturday 25th April 2020

Happy Saturday Everyone!

We hope you enjoyed your first week back to Virtual School. Are you enjoying learning about ants? What fascinating insects they are yet so tiny!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is what I discovered in my garden.........

Ant Team Work

Can you film some incredible ants at work?

Are you enjoying your new RWInc books and the Power Maths Pattern learning? Keep practising your counting forwards and backwards and accurate 1:1 correspondance as well as recognising and forming your numbers.

An interesting read about handwriting and the importance of fine motor skills.

Some Tweets on the matter........

So, children are all different and unique, do not feel the pressure to pick up a pencil and write! This will happen developmentally when all the other building blocks are in place.............snipping, colouring, digging, squishing, squeezing, rolling, threading, acting, role playing, building as well as activities to build core, upper body strength and posture.............cycling, running, climbing, yoga, stretching, ball games.............

Oxford Owl Learning please access this website for excellent resources.

EYFS Nrich maths

Attracting wildlife to your garden - make a butterfly feeder. Have a go, there are loads of ways to make one..........can you take a photo of any butterflies, can you draw or paint a butterfly, bumble bee or bird you see in your garden or on a walk?

Try sharing a whole family story of The Borrowers as a link to the Ant topic (reference size comparisons, vocabulary and imagination.)

Happy exploring!!!!!!!!!!!

Reception Friday 17th April 2020

Quick, get your wellies on and go for a splash in some puddles!!!!!!! Perfect mud kitchen weather too, wrap up and make some mud pies!

It was the BEST DAY EVER on Wednesday as Mrs. Smith and I were privileged to be given the opportunity to visit all of you and see your happy, smiling faces!!!!!!! It made our day!

We hope you discovered the Reception Knowledge Organiser which will be our topic and learning springboard for the half term. There will be a weekly Reception Learning Buffet slide on the virtual school with provision for you to choose from linked to the topic.

The RWInc slide will direct you to the online lessons daily which are a fantastic resource we highly recommend that you access.

Please do not use your new Power Maths work book until the end of the week as they review the learning from the week. Each day you will be able to see the online Power Maths slide which will introduce the learning for the day that you can do together.

I will also supplement the Buffet with a couple of links on the blog that you may like to try.

Here are a few lovely ideas.................

This is a very interesting and important read that will give you an insight into the importance of language and how you can help at home. Despite it being classroom based, you can easily adapt this to being at home......... Teaching oracy skills and developing language

Friday 10 April 2020

Reception Friday 10th April..........a Care Bear hug for you all!

Happy Good Friday and Happy Easter to You ALL,

The perfect weekend to be together as a family in your own homes and gardens!

I know some of you have emailed me requesting new RWInc books - after the Easter Hols, next week, we are planning a delivery of new RWInc books, other resources and Power Maths practice books - we will also need the old RWInc and Power Maths books returned, but will give you logistical details later. As you may appreciate, it will be easier for us to manage this by doing a whole class delivery.

The Reception Learning Buffet will start again next week with an exciting new topic!

Something for the grown - ups..............a very clever mum wrote the poem below which I thought was very moving and poignant - it sums up our current situation perfectly but with a nostalgic focus - maybe it is a poem to print and keep tucked away for the future - our rainbow children, a part of history! Maybe you could put it in a time capsule or a memory box, or maybe you might like to illustrate it...........as an adult, it made me want to write a poem..........parents - could you get your creative juices flowing and compose a poem or create a piece of art work?

Talking of nostalgia...........why not take some time to share some programmes that you enjoyed when you were a child...................Rainbow Bright     Care Bears       Thunder Cats          The Smurfs        The Flintstones        Johnny Ball Reveals All        Take Hart       Paddington
............who is as old as me??????????? 😆

Next............a treat for you............(unhealthy I know, but wow - yummy!) I think we deserve one, don't you?

Or, could this inspire some craft..................

Lots of Care Bear hugs from Mrs. Smith and I..............

We really enjoyed seeing some of you at the virtual disco on Friday, it was great fun!

I have really enjoyed speaking with some of you and even being invited to a couple of zoom chats. If you would like to contact me for a chat, then please ring school over the next couple of days as I am in tomorrow and Wednesday.

Take time to reflect and be still, focus on your breathing..........what are you thankful for...........give someone in your house a hug..............tell someone how much you love them...........find something that makes you smile or laugh............plug in your earphones and play your favourite tunes!

Reception Wednesday 1st April 2020

Good evening to you all!

We hope you are all ok and have had another good day!? Thank you for your emails sharing learning, funny moments and/or asking questions! I hope we have managed to help those of you who have requested it and who may have asked to change RWInc books or were in need of an exercise book.............

It was very strange going in to school today - everywhere is eerily empty but my day was made all the more brighter by seeing a small number of PoW children and also talking to a couple of Reception children following requests.

I am sure, like us, you are all very emotionally drained, putting on a brave face for your little ones, when inside we are scared, down, worried, frustrated, lonely and sad. Please ensure you look after yourselves aswell - firstly you MUST NOT pressure yourselves to complete EVERY task that is offered on the virtual school or supplemented on the blog - it is only there for you to dip in and out of and add to as you see fit, or use it to springboard some other learning. As you can imagine, everyone is different and we are trying to achieve a balance with what we are offering. The best learning the children can do is through play and contextualised; therefore it will come as no surprise if I say that it is not good EYFS practice to expect young learners to fill out pages of worksheets. They do have their place and you are welcome to print your own but I will not be sending or providing lots of sheets. Do NOT worry about your child "falling behind", we are and will be there for all the children WHEN they come back and it is our job to help them reach their Age Related Expectation.

As I mentioned previously, we have completed our Reception Spring Term Power Maths and will be delivering the Summer Term one after Easter.

Make it simple for yourselves: read, watch the RWInc lessons on our Virtual School, practice letter formation and number work but most of all - PLAY PLAY PLAY! Cbeebies do also have some fantastic educational programmes which are fun to watch together.

In Lidls this week I spotted mud kitchens for £49 (if you were looking for one and are not a carpenter!) They also had some very cheap seed packets, I bought some of these last year and we had some glorious flowers throughout the summer - why not have a go!?

As adults, take a breath.............read a book, have a bubble bath, try some online yoga,  do a puzzle, do an online course (Key Skills Academy) take up a new hobby - painting, drawing, jewellery making, learning an instrument, writing (poetry, novel, autobiography.....), meditation, crafting, woodwork, cooking, baking............do something for YOU and your wellbeing.

Please stay in touch and we welcome your feedback so that we can adjust our provision accordingly.

Stay happy!

Mrs. Smith and Mrs. J
