🌟 Our First Week in Reception 🌟

Dear Families and Friends,

What a wonderful first week we have had in Reception! We are so proud of how quickly the children have settled into school life, embraced our routines, and made lots of new friends. It has been a week full of smiles, curiosity, and new adventures.

Share Bags

This week, the children brought in their special Share Bags, which included a photo with their family, a favourite book, and a toy. These bags were such a lovely way for the children to tell us a little more about themselves, and the class has loved hearing each other’s stories. It has helped everyone to feel part of our Reception family right from the start.

Meeting Our Year 4 Buddies

A very exciting highlight has been meeting our Year 4 Buddies! They have been fantastic role models, helping the children in the lunch hall, reading stories, and taking care of them on the big playground at lunchtime. The children are already looking forward to their weekly story sessions on Wednesday afternoons.

Raya the Respectful Butterfly 🦋

We have also been introduced (or for some, reintroduced!) to Raya the Respectful Butterfly, one of our school’s learning powers. Raya is already helping us to remember how important it is to be kind, thoughtful and respectful towards each other.

Decorating Our Aprons 🎨

Each child has started decorating their very own school apron, which they will continue to use and treasure as they grow through the years at The Prince of Wales School. It has been wonderful to see their creativity shining through as they make their aprons personal and unique.

Maths with the Counting Crab 🦀

In Maths, we’ve been exploring the numbers 1, 2 and 3. The children have enjoyed getting to know our friendly Counting Crab, who has been helping us to recognise and understand these early numbers.

Snipping, Snipping! ✂️

We’ve also had a special lesson all about how to use scissors safely. The children have been practising their cutting skills and are already becoming much more confident with this important tool.

Cooking Adventures 🍎🥕🥦

In Cooking this week, we explored a wide range of fruit and vegetables. The children enjoyed smelling, touching and tasting different foods in preparation for our Design & Technology project, where we’ll be learning how to make soup. Watch this space for some tasty creations!

Exploring Reception

And of course, much of our week has been spent exploring all of the Reception resources, toys and classroom areas. The children have loved building, creating, role-playing, and discovering – their excitement and enthusiasm has been a joy to see.

We could not be more proud of how well the children have settled into their first week. They have already shown resilience, kindness, and a real love of learning. We are so excited for the weeks ahead and can’t wait to share more of their adventures with you.

Just a Note: If your child is not featured in this blog, it is either because you have not returned your consent forms to the school office or because you have explicitly stated you do not give consent for your child's photographs to be used.

🌟JUST A REMINDER THAT MONDAY IS SCHOOL PHOTO DAY🌟

Thank you for your support and we hope you've had a fantastic weekend!

With warm regards,
Miss Godden and the Reception Team 🌈

  1. Thanks for the lovely post. I appreciate all the photos - it must’ve been a lot of work but really nice to have a sneak peak into the classroom and know they’re settling in well.
