Hello Reception Families!
I hope you have all had a lovely weekend - it was so nice to see some of you at the POW 30th Anniversary Celebrations on Saturday evening! We have had another fantastic week in Reception. This week we have been exploring our five senses (Sound, Touch, Taste, Smell and Sight) to share what it is like to be human to our new alien visitors.
On Monday we investigated our sense of sound! The children had lots of fun exploring lots of different instruments, making our own instruments and playing the 'guess the sound' game.
On Tuesday we used our sense of touch to explore a range of textures (and get a little messy 😄). We also used our sense of touch to try and feel what mystery shape was inside each sock.
Wednesday was taste! We explored all five elements of taste: Sweet, Salty, Sour, Bitter and Umami. I was very impressed with how confident many children were when trying new foods!
Thursday we explored the sense of smell. It was lovely seeing how many children recognised smells from cooking such as garlic, pepper and cinnamon.
And finally, Friday we explored our sense of sight. We had lots of fun making our own shadow puppets, playing with glow in the dark stars, exploring 3D pictures and using our sense of sight to find items in a busy picture.
Heading in to the next week:
- This week we will be doing lots of DT as we continue our Cooking unit for this half term.
- In phonics we are learning the sounds c / k / u / b / f /
- In Drawing Club we are starting a new book for the next two weeks: Where the Wild Things Are
I also just wanted to mention, there has been a Reception WhatsApp group chat made and I am aware that not all parents are currently in the chat. If you wish to be added then please ask around during pickup. I have been made aware by the admin of the chat, that they want all parents to feel like they are welcome to join.
And finally, please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything regarding your child.
My email address is f.godden@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk
Hope you've all had an amazing weekend,
Miss Godden, Mrs Rogers, Mrs Smith and Mr Long.
