What a day Reception have had! Eager to experience the salty sea air, rolling waves, and rugged coastal scenery, we set off on our awaited trip to Portland Bill and Chesil Beach. And what an adventure it turned out to be!
Next, we headed inside the Portland Bill Visitor Centre, which was packed with displays and exhibits. A highlight was when each child chose a postcard to write and send home—a special memento of their day by the sea. Keep an eye on your letterboxes over the next few weeks!
The excitement continued with a tour around the ground level of the lighthouse. We got to see the original lighthouse lamp from 1996— a real hit with the children.
After a picnic lunch and a quick recharge, it was back onto the coach for the short journey to Chesil Beach. The fun really took off as we slid down the stone dunes (yes, they’re as fun as they sound!) and explored the variety of stones and rocks that have been shaped by the sea over time. There were smooth ones, stripy ones, round ones, sparkly ones—and plenty of curious hands and minds eager to learn more.
We’re so proud of how wonderfully the children behaved throughout the day—they represented our school brilliantly demonstrating all of our Learning Powers!
Thank you, parents, for preparing them so well!
We highly recommend visiting the Portland Bill with your children again with the opportunity to climb the lighthouse all the way to the top! Braving all 155 steps to the to the Lantern Room 41 metres above ground where your child can enjoy fantastic views of the Jurassic Coast.

Until the next adventure,
