Reception Wednesday 31st March 2021 - one more eggciting day to go!

A well deserved Easter break is within reaching distance. Our children should be applauded for their energy, enthusiasm and positivity! We have been particularly impressed with their personal and social development displaying empathy, thinking of others, negotiating and using their words to express their feelings! Well done Reception!

The children have brought 2 library books home today, which they may keep to read over Easter. Please can ALL RWInc books be returned TOMORROW. There will be NO RWInc books coming home now until after Easter. Look out for your child's RWInc assessment sheet in their book bag tomorrow!

We would like to say just how understanding and resilient the children were when we talked about Mrs. Smith's new job. Mrs. Smith has always wanted to work for the NHS and is now following her dreams! We are soooooooo proud of her and happy for her! The children thought it was amazing that she was following her dreams and it lead to a lovely discussion about their dreams and how important it was not to give up on those dreams!

I will be in constant contact with Mrs. Smith and I know she will regularly send messages to show the children and I am sure she will visit us. We will be inviting her in during Summer 2, as part of our topic, to talk about her job!

Thank you Mrs. Smith, we love you lots like jelly-tots, you are "shamazing" and an inspiration to everyone who has the pleasure of meeting and knowing you! We are so privileged to have had you sprinkling love into our lives!

Here's to hopping and egg hunting tomorrow!!!!!!

Reception - Wednesday 24th March 2021

 Happy Mid-Week Day!

The children have been immersing themselves in all things Spring and Easter themed this week; nests have been made and designed, collaborative pictures, watercolour paintings, chalking and painting have all been created of various Spring themed stimulus. In Power Maths we are reviewing our learning of number and place value. Mrs. Smith ahs carried out RWInc assessments this week and children will move into new groupings after the Easter Holidays. We will send home there current assessment next Thursday so that you can support your child at home.

It has been brought to my attention that some older children have been "conjuring up" unpleasant stories involving the park over the road and "dead bodies" "strangers" etc. I had to talk to the whole class about it as I wasn't sure who had heard what and children were quite anxious and scared! I have reassured them that it is all a made up story and most definitely not true. I alerted Mr. Spracklen who is also going to pass this on to other class teachers in order to address the seriousness and the impact of such stories on young children.

One more thing..............please can we ask that children do not bring in toys from home - apart from their dragon/comforter if they need one. Thank you! On Fridays, if your child rides their bike or scooter to school and has a helmet, they can ride them in the playground during afternoon choosing time.

If you have any questions, please email me directly,

Mrs. J, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hibberd

Reception - Thursday 18th March 2021

Hi Everyone!

We hope this blog finds you all well!? The children continue to amaze us with their positive and happy return to school!

This week we have been taking our hot air balloons to Africa and, more specifically, The Gambia! We located The gambia on a map of the world and a map of Africa, discovering that it was a much smaller country than ours. We were very curious about what The Gambia was like, would it be the same as our country??????????????   We know what the flag of The Gambia looks like, we know what the people in The Gambia look like and where they live, we loved looking at what the markets are like as well as learning what animals have their habitat in The Gambia. There is a river with a lot of jungle and mangrove swamps too!

Here are 2 pictures of children making anacondas!

"There's a lion coming, this is an enclosure for it!"

"I am an Ice Queen!"

We did movement, drama and dance based around a visit to The Gambia.

This topic has really captured their imaginations, and along with the Gambian artefacts we have, they have loved role playing visiting The Gambia on holiday!

Please could all RWInc book bag books be returned tomorrow so that we can send home the next one.

Tomorrow is home clothes day in order to raise money towards Comic Relief.

We voted on ideas for a treat following the successful team effort of filling our dragon gem jar; there were a multitude of suggestions. The children then voted on their favourite one.................12 votes for using the soft play in Pre-School! Therefore, next week, we will be visitning in small groups for a play! Well done everyone, the jar will be emptied tomorrow ready to start again!

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Reception - first week back! The most resilient children in the world!

Happy Sunny Saturday Everyone! It really is a sign that the light is shining through the end of the COVID tunnel!

I know I use the word "proud" a lot, but it is a word that genuinely describes how we, in Reception, feel about your children. Now, more than ever, they have not failed to amaze us..............this week has been amazing! The children have demonstrated such resilience and also a clear love of school because they have settled straight back in to the environment, routine and learning as if they were never away! The children who attended school throughout lockdown have also been incredible because they have had to adjust from a class of 31 to a class of 12 max and then back to 31. In some respects this was more of a challenge because they had been used to more adult support and this week they have had to share us!

Please make sure you have LOTS of cuddles this week-end telling them how proud you are of them. Physical contact, self esteem building and warmth is essential for children's emotional well being and good mental health.

Next week we will continue to travel in our hot air balloons. We will be leaving Europe and heading for The Gambia!!!

Science week has been so much fun. This class really are excellent at discussing, reasoning and testing as well as being super curious and articulate - a real pleasure to teach!

See you all on Monday,

Mrs. J, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Hibberd and Mrs. Burgess

Calling All Artists - An exciting opportunity with The Royal Academy - 08/03/21

 A #InspiredToLearn Artistic Opportunity

Now in its third year, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 5 - 19 studying in the UK and British schools overseas. Artworks are judged by artists and arts professionals with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts.

We just had to get involved!

Have a look at last year’s exhibition to get #InspiredToLearn:

https://youngartists.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibitions/2020

What is The Royal Academy Young Artists Summer Show?

Artists are at the heart of everything at the Royal Academy of Arts – they’ve been championing them since 1768 and firmly believe in nurturing young talent and celebrating the next generation of artists.

Taking inspiration from the annual Summer Exhibition, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is an opportunity for young artists aged 5 - 19 years to exhibit their work online and on-site at the Royal Academy.

The project is generously supported by Robin Hambro, a passionate advocate for the importance of access to art, and the benefits of encouraging the arts, for children and young people.

A panel of passionate and award-winning artists and arts professionals work together each year to select artworks to exhibit online and on-site at the Royal Academy.

Your artwork could be among those the judges select this year!

How do I enter?

We are registered as a school and you can submit up to 3 pieces of artwork, these can be works of art created at home or in school, in the past or something you are working on currently.  They can also be collaborative pieces that have been created by you with support of a group of other children.  There is no set theme or media for your artwork - It can be a painting, sculpture, photograph, installation, video, drawing, or a combination.

For each artwork submission you will need a jpeg image/s of the artwork along with details including a title, medium and a short description, child’s name and age.  Please see the attached guide for taking your photos.

Send your photos to a.johnson@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk

Please also complete the attached permission form and hand in to the school office.  Your picture will then be submitted by us and you will receive confirmation via a return email from us and everyone who submits work will hear from the Royal Academy by the end of May.

The closing date for submissions is 26th April 2021

The full terms and conditions are available on the Royal Academy Website.

What happens next?

Your artwork will be seen by a panel of judges and the selected pieces will be shown in our online exhibition. Some of the artworks will also be selected to be shown at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Prizes

Prizes are awarded each year for two inspiring artworks from each key stage, as chosen by the President of the Royal Academy, and you can also vote for your favourite artwork in The Royal Academy’s annual People’s Choice Award.

Are you ready to be...

"We're so excited and we just can't hide it..........." "Reception - we CANNOT wait to see you all!"

We are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited to see you all on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, we cannot say enough times just how proud we are of all of you for your resilience during lockdown.

Just a few reminders: bring wellies in, don't forget snack and water, please return "My Amazing Achievements" book and the named zip wallets we sent home. Drop off and pick up will be exactly the same as pre-lockdown (your staggered time and specific Reception gate entrance). Children may have one small comforter toy to be kept in their bags if you think they need one.

You can reassure children that we will be following exactly the same routines as pre-lockdown: they will put their belongings away, go to their morning job group as before, we will then have register, RWInc, snack and story, My Learning in 2 groups, Power Maths and Lunch in the Hall followed by playtime on the field. In the afternoons we will be doing yoga or PE or using Forest Schools or the Play Trail followed by My Learning time in our  area.

The children will return to their RWInc groups, NO assessments will be carried out until the end of this half term in order to give children time to settle back into routines and ensure every child feels confident.

This coming week is Science week - the theme being "Inventors and Inventions".

The rest of this half term we will be focussing on settling the children back into school, routines, friendships, play and social and emotional skills. Should you have any questions or would like to share any information or concerns, please email me directly.

Your child's happiness and well being is 100% our priority!

Finally, a HUUUUUGGGGEEEEE thank you to Mrs. Briant who has been part of our team during Lockdown! xx

See you all on Monday!
