Eco day and update on clothing...

Fairy garden small world tyre for outdoor play in the early years - by EYchloe:

Hello everyone,

Today we had a bit of a special day. Much like Christmas Technology Day we split up for the day and went to do all sorts of different things centered around an 'Eco' theme. There was all sorts of things made and done - bird feeders, cress heads, painted cup planting and wellie planting among other things. Most of these things will stay in school to be used around the grounds. You will hopefully be able to spot how we use them over the rest of the week.
For the rest of this week we will be engaging in lots of outdoors activities so you are more than welcome to send children into school wearing play trousers that can get  bit muddy. This will be the case for the rest of this week. As for wellies, please feel free to leave them in school to save bringing them back in every day. Some of our outdoors projects are listen below, if anyone is able to come in and help at any point, please let us know:

Inquiring Minds: Mrs. Myers' Kindergarten: Inquiring About Music: Our Sound Exploration Area:

1. Music wall - we'll be using old pots and plans, trays, and pipes to make a wall for anyone that needs some noise in their day.
2. Gardening - this includes weeding, sorting and tidying as well as planting.
3. Wheelbarrow hotel - Using an old wheelbarrow to make a bug hotel. We'll fill it with soil and logs/sticks for any little visitors we may find in our outdoor area.
4. small word tires - Filling tires with soil and sand and making them into small word enclosures i.e. dino-land, fairyville, builders yard.

HELP - a desparate plea!!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone have any compost that I could use tomorrow, pretty please - rather than spending a fortune on new bags, I would rather see if there are any half bags that need using up first!?

Also, if anyone has any part used BRIGHT gloss paint that they could donate for the tyre planters, that would be great too!

Thank you!

Next week - Eco week

Hello everyone,

As I'm sure you are all aware, next week is a whole school Eco week. I won't repeat everything that has already been said on newsletters but there is LOTS going on. If you missed the newsletter, please come and see us and we'll get you a copy. We will also keep you updated via the blog too.
As many of the activities we'll be doing next week are outside it would be brilliant if your child could bring in a pair of wellies and outdoor/wet gear. Although we won't go out in pouring rain, it will help protect school clothes in they can put some waterproofs over the top. It would be very helpful if you could bring this all in on Monday ready for the first round of activities. You can then leave it at school for the whole week.As there is already a whole-school 'Eco competition' I won't place any additional home learning on.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has brought things in for the school to use or is going to bring things into school. This is much appreciated by staff as well as children.

Here's to some good weather!

We need your help!

Eco week – Week commencing 29th February

We need your help!

Monday 29th February – We are having a whole school eco activity day.  The children will have chosen three activities they wish to do; they will visit other classrooms and work with children across the school.  If you are able to come on in and lend a hand, then please let your class’s team know. The more helpers the more successful these activities can be!

Also, events and learning through eco week are going on throughout this week. Again, if you have a small amount of time spare, please do let us know, we would really appreciate any extra offers of help. Again, please talk to your child’s teacher/ team.

Finally, thank you to all of you who have been bringing in wanted items by staff for eco week, we very much appreciate all of the items, these will help in ensuring the children’s learning and activities can be as exciting and fun as planned!

a request

WANTED! If you have any colourful unwanted balls of wool, please can you send in for Eco Week?

Many thanks!

Mrs Mewett

Welcome back!

Hello everyone,

Lovely to see everyone today! Some fantastic home learning going on over the half-term break so thank you very much for bringing this all in. This week is a bit of a unique week as we're looking at 'The Gambia'. We'll only be doing this for a week but every year as your child goes through the school their knowledge will be added to with different tasks and activities. The book that we'll be centering this week round is 'Fatou, Fetch the Water' by Neil Griffiths. This story is based upon a real child and we'll be finding out about what living in The Gambia is like and what children experience there. We'll also be having a wider look at Africa as a continent and some of the wildlife that can be found there.
In maths this week we'll be continuing to learn about adding 2 numbers together. This will be increasing to go over 10. We'll be encouraging children to use real objects and number lines to help them.

Finally, next week we will be having a whole-school Eco themed week. On Monday children will be moving around the school to try a whole host of activities. If anyone is available on Monday and would like to help in reception please let us know.

Thank you!

Hello everyone,

Thank you to everyone that was able to make it to our Chinese food party this afternoon. We hope you had enough to eat (apologies some of the food was a bit late coming out) and enjoyed watching the dance we were supposed to show on Monday.
We also had our awards assembly today to celebrate all the children that we feel have made great progress over the half-term. Congratulations to all of the children that had a certificate/trophy tomorrow.
We are not in school tomorrow so I hope you enjoy your half-term! We have made it to half way through the year! I look forward to seeing everyone when we return.

Things happening over the next week...

Hello everyone,

As we have a busy week or so coming up I thought it would be useful to put all the important stuff happening on here!

  • We are adding all the sounds to the sound pots but there were a few missing today so if you could pop it into your child's book bag we'll change them over. Thank you.
  • Monday next week is our little trip up to DMS to perform a dance that we have been practising in school - its a samba dance. If you are available to help walk up or just want to come and watch you are more than welcome to join us. We'll be leaving as soon as we can on this day so PE kits will be out when you come into school - any help with getting changed would be greatly appreciated.
  • Tuesday/Wednesday are parents evenings. There are still spaces left on the early parents evening (Wednesday) if you haven't booked a slot yet.
  • Thursday will be the day for our Chinese New Year feast! You are invited to come in to school from 3.00pm to taste some of the food we have been making and see some of the work we have been creating. Please note that children will not be able to leave until 3.30pm.
  • Friday is a teacher training day so children will not be required in school! Enjoy the extra day off for half-term!

Reading eggs

Hi all,

As many of you are already aware we have been introducing the children to Reading Eggs over the last few weeks. This is a fantastic website that can be used at home to help enhance phonics, literacy and understanding skills. Your child's username and password has been sent home for you so you can access it at home. At school we have introduced children to several different aspects of reading eggs along with the safety aspect of not spending too much time on a computer/tablet.
You can access the website here: http://app.readingeggs.com/user_session/new
You are able to print off certificates after completing each 'map' and some of these are being brought into school so please continue this!

Big Write - Chinese New Year!

Hello everyone,

Firstly, a message to pass on to you all about head lice within the school. We have had several reported cases in reception so please could we ask you to be aware. We will be asking girls with long hair to have it tied up all the time please - don't worry we have lots of spare hairbands! A letter will be coming home tomorrow. Sorry it that made you itch your head.
Moving on, we are continuing to make strides in our Chinese New Year topic. This week we'll be continuing to develop the dragons that we came up with last week and get some super writing about them. We will be situating our 'Big Write' around this idea this week too. This is where children are given a stimulus and time to discuss it - in school and at home - and they then base some writing upon that stimulus. So below are some pictures and questions for you to think about regarding 'DRAGONS' (said in a deep, dark voice).

What words could you use to label your dragon?

Does your dragon have any special powers?

If you could fly somewhere on your dragon, where would it be?

What will your dragon be called?

There is a dragon, a princess and a knight - what happens?

Finish this sentence 'My Dragon will...'

We will be discussing these questions and more in school before having a go at writing!

Year 1 need your help please!

Year 1 will be doing an exciting topic next term and need your help! We would like your recycled kitchen rolls (not toilet rolls), pringle tubes and any other cylinder shapes. As well as this we would like to recycle any cereal bar boxes (as shown in the picture below).

Please bring any of these to the Year 1 classroom or give them to your teachers to pass on.
