Kickstaring Food, Faith and Farming Fortnight

Hello Reception families! I hope you are all well and have had a relaxing weekend. The team and I are very excited to share what a lovely week we have had!

Reception have had lots of fun kickstarting our Food, Faith and Farming fortnight.
In class we have opened our very own farm shop! Children have had lots of fun shopping, working the checkouts and writing their own shopping lists.

We also had our first Forest School Session this week. The focus of this session was based around exploring our five senses. The children had lots of fun doing a nature hunt, using binoculars, using magnifying glasses, using their sense of touch to guess what was in the mystery box, making dens out of sticks and using their sense of sound to identify natural and man-made sounds.

In Design Technology this week we continued with our Junk Modeling Unit to plan and make our own rockets! We started by all sketching a plan of our rocket in our sketch books. The children then used this plan to make their own. All children started with a tube and had complete freedom to turn it in to a rocket using all of the skills we had learnt previously.

On Friday this week, Reception had an extended session with Coach Luca, working on our basketball skills. The children have really pushed themselves to have control over the ball and have really improved on their coordination skills!

Reminders and Notes for the coming week:

In phonics with week we learning the sounds v / y / w / z / x

In Drawing Club we are staring the book Farmer Duck

On Wednesday we will have a Christian Input from Jack Curtis

On Thursday we have the Farm Trip to Maiden Castle Farm! Please ensure children are wearing appropriate shoes, trousers, and have a waterproof coat. Children will have lunch at school as normal.

On Friday we have Family Harvest where we invite all parents to come and join us between 10.30am and 11.15am to see what we have been up to during Food, Faith and Farming Fortnight (Reception will be showcasing their homemade pumpkin soup).

Friday is also 'dress like a farmer' day! I look forward to seeing all of Reception as little farmers!

I also just wanted to mention that we are very short of spare pants in reception! If you have any spare pants you would be happy to donate then we really appreciate anything that can be offered. If you child wears a pair of school pants home, please remember to return these after washing so we can always ensure we have lots for children in school. It would also be great if children could have a spare pair in their bags just in case!

And finally I just wanted to say a huge thank you for Ashton (Thea's dad) for coming in to school and sharing lots of information to spread awareness on Thursday 10th of October for World Sight day. The children had lots of fun learning about different kinds of eyesight and the role of an Ophthalmologist.

Thank you so much for another fabulous week and as usual, feel free to email me with any questions you may have.

Miss Godden, Mrs Rogers, Mrs Smith and Mr Long.
