Snail and the Whale, water world and research!

 Hello Reception Families,

It has been a wonderful first week back in Reception.

This half term are theme is 'Off to the Beach' we kicked this off with Whale Week! We used The Snail and the Whale in Drawing Club.

In Understanding the World we learnt about Humpback and Blue Whales. The children conducted research, they had to identify Fact/ information books, from story books. We also learnt how to use a 'blurb' to tell us what the book is about.

We also practiced our fine motor skills cutting a jellyfish or painting a sea scene for the whale!

In SCARF/ RSE we were reminding ourselves about the different seasons we have. We will be reminding ourselves of animal life cycles next.

Because of the fantastic weather we all spent a lot of time playing outside in the water, we built some fabulous water runs. It was impressive to see the children not only work together to problem solve but how they used their Reggie Resilience to support their learning goals.

Turning our Attention to this week:

Drawing Club: Rainbow Fish

Power maths: Shape (composing and decomposing)

RSE: Animal life cycles

Understanding the World: Creatures that live in the sea and why it is important to take care of the oceans.

General notices:

Sunscreen and hats: Please ensure that your child brings a NAMED hat every day. We fully recommend using 8 hour sunscreen, applied before school.

Transition afternoons: Every Thursday afternoon until the 6th July children will travel all the way up to Year One and spend time with Mrs March and the Year One Team. They really enjoyed their time last week!

PE: Wednesdays, please come dressed in PE kit to school.

As ever please do get in touch if you need anything.

Ms Evans and the Reception Team.
