Sunflowers, Scarf and Maiden Castle Farm

 Hello Reception Families,

We have had a wonderful start to the term!

This week we have launched our Sunflower Challenge, we have observed similarities and differences with seeds and planted our Sunflowers! The Sunflower Challenge will form a key part of our learning during the summer term.

In PE we had a wonderful time using the equipment with Mr Treble.

We had a wonderful visit for Maiden Castle Farm on Wednesday, we really enjoyed looking at the lambs! We are very grateful to Hazel for looking after us. AND we've shaved 15 minutes off the time it took us to get there from our last trip in the Autumn Term!

On Tuesday we really enjoyed our visit from the Scarf life bus.

We have also played and played and played!

Moving our attention to next week:

Drawing Club: Little Red Hen.
Power Maths: Counting forwards and backwards.
Understanding the World and Expressive Art and Design: Sunflowers, artists and Van Gogh.

Reminders:

PE will be on Mondays this term.

On Tuesday at 9:00 we have our parent information session, this term we will be focussing on Transition plans,  the EYF assessments taking place in the summer term, RSE. We will also have a RWInc update.

The school will be closed to most pupils on Thursday 27th April due to ongoing industrial action.

Save the date for our fantastic Coronation Singing at Salisbury Fields. (Definitely worth the late night!)

As ever please do get in touch if there is anything we can do to help.

Beginning of term reminders.

 Hello Reception Families.

I trust you have all had a lovely Spring Holidays, I am very much looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

First reminder: PE KITS TOMORROW PLEASE.

Our PE sessions have moved to a Monday afternoon with Mr Treble. Please can children come dressed in their PE kits tomorrow.

Second reminder: Maiden Castle Farm Visit 19th April.

We will be having our spring visit to Maiden Castle Farm this week.  It is of course weather dependent, however all children will need suitable footwear (wellies are best) and potentially warm clothing. We will keep a close eye on the weather over the next few days. If you would like to accompany the trip please email me at j.evans@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk we will be leaving school by 9:30 on Wednesday morning and will return before lunch.

Tomorrow we will be launching our Sunflower Challenge, which will run throughout the Summer Term. We will be growing sunflowers, conducting research about sunflowers and exploring sunflowers in Expressive Art and Design. We will use our knowledge of sunflowers to help us in maths too! This is a lovely project and we can't wait for the children to share their knowledge with you!

Tomorrow, you will notice a new fence which is being built in the outdoor learning area, I would ask that you stand with your children in the first section (by the climbing frame) when waiting at the beginning and end of the day.

I can't believe we are beginning the children's final term in Reception, they have made such fantastic progress, friendships and wonderful joy filled play. I can't wait to see what this term brings!

As ever, if you need anything please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Tigers, trips and a rather special tea party!

 Hello Reception,

Phew! We ended the term on possibly one of our best weeks yet!

Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to support our tea party yesterday, I know how much it will have meant to the children to have so many guests! Including our very own tiger!

We had a wonderful trip to Shire Hall on Thursday, the children really enjoyed it, if you have other children, I'd really recommend a trip over the holidays, it's a lovely play space for families to explore the story.

We started the week with a shocking scene! A tiger had been for tea over the weekend. We've been looking for that tiger ever since! Current thinking is he's invisible and is living in the castle! Pure childhood magic!

We enjoyed writing our invitations on Monday and making our very own cakes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon!

I'm definitely going to let the pictures do the talking this week!

Turning our attention to the SUMMER TERM!

When we come back, it will the beginning of our last term in Reception and it promises to be as big, as exciting and as playful as the rest!

We start the term with the theme, Ticket to Ride! We will be learning about different homes, different places to live, here in the UK and around the world. We will also be learning about cars, planes and trains from 'now and before.'

Our PE day is changing to Monday. Please ensure that children come dressed for PE on the first day back. We are going to have PE with Mr Treble!

We will be visiting Maiden Castle Farm on the 19th April, details will be shared at the beginning of term (when we know what the weather is doing.)

Children may be moving RWInc groups after the Spring Holidays and this will be shared with you at the beginning of term.

As we move through the first part of the summer term we will begin to spend more time learning all together, this is something we have introduced this term and the children have really enjoyed this!

There will be another move around in the classroom during the holidays to ensure that our learning landscape continues to meet the needs of children's learning, I will share any major changes prior to term starting.

On a final note before I sign off for a few weeks, the team and I would just like to say a huge thank you for all the support you have given the children and us this term. Thank you for reading to them  and supporting their reading (and remembering those reading records) thank you for helping the children complete their homework and bringing it back into school and thank you for helping us with trips!

Enjoy the Spring Holidays and we will see you soon

Ms Evans and the Reception team!
