Remember remember the 5th of November

Whizz Bang! What a week it has been!!

I've been really impressed with how quickly the children have settled back into school this week, it has been wonderful to be back together again!

We've spent lots of time discussing fireworks and bonfire night and the theme has continued throughout our provision.

All the children made a firework with Mrs Howell this week! I'm sure you can agree what a wonderful job they did.

In Understanding the World, we spoke about the history of bonfire night and we made two guys working as a whole class!

Regulating in the sensory tent!
Waiting for Drawing Club to start.

Names for the guys on the back of a postcard please!

We've also been creating firework paintings and exploring colour mixing. Learning to mix colours is an important part of Expressive Art and Design, it's also lots of the fun!

In maths we've been exploring changes within 5, we practiced our fine motor and our maths skills, making fireworks out of colanders.

In SCARF this week explored what makes us the same and what makes us different and how special all these similarities and differences make us.

In PE we explored different ways to travel and balance along the benches. We also had our first mindful moment.
Mindfulness will become a key practice in Reception over the coming months. Mindfulness can increase the sense of well being, improve attention span, reduce stress and improve cognitive and executive function! The children have really enjoyed our mindful videos this week!

We've also had so many wonderful moments celebrating the magic of play!

Today we had our first Nature Explorer session in the wood area. We split into two groups taking it in turns to toast marshmallows with Mr Bascombe and make clay hedgehogs and creatures (the clay will dry in 7-10 days) watching the children, hunt for sticks and create their creatures was a wonderful experience for all, the benefits of creativity and outside exploration are limitless!

Weather dependant we will have Nature Explorer sessions every Friday afternoon, please can children bring Welly boots and a spare pair of trousers to change into.

I would like to praise both parents and children for coping with the sheer volume of belongings that the children brought home with them today!!! Phew what a lot that was!

All children have chosen a 'book to love' that they brought home with them, please spend some time reading the book with your child over the coming week and return it on Thursday, ready for another story to be chosen on Friday.

Moving our attention to next week:

Drawing Club: Three little pigs

Power maths: Changes within five

Understanding the World: Staying Healthy.

Children will move into new RWI groups from Monday, each child has been carefully assessed and has been placed into a group for their stage in development. Information on this will be provided in due course.

What a stella week we have had, I cannot state enough what a wonderful group of children we have in reception this year! They are like sun rays and moonbeams!

Until Monday,

Ms Evans and the Reception Team.
