Reception Sunday 25th April 2021

What a fantastic, fantabulous, fun first week back!

The highlight of my week has been seeing our new bubble playing, carefree, on the field together at lunchtime!!!!!! To watch them all, so happy, you would never think these amazing children had ever been through lockdown!

The children have been fascinated by our topic so far...........ants! We heave learnt words such as colony, head, thorax and abdomen. We learnt that there is a queen ant and worker ants, baby ants are born white. We were interestedf to find out that if you weighed all the humans in the world and then all the ants in the world - the ants would be heavier! Wow! That shows just how many there are! We have been hunting for ants and wacthing them closely to see what they do and where they go! This week, we will be investigating ants further and learning about different types of ants!

On Wednesday afternoons we are taking our science learning outside and using the garden to plant, weed, pond dip and learn about animal care, with the help of Helen from Pre-School and her excellent expertise. On Friday afternoons we spend time at Forest School and will be investigating our Mini-Beast topic there as well as having time to ride balance bikes or bikes and scooters from home on the playground.

In Power Maths we are learning about repeating patterns. On Friday, children will bring Power Maths Workbook C home and I will tell you which unit to work on each week.

Reception are participating brilliantly in the Big Pedal! Keep up the good work this week - there is a Bike it Breakfast tomorrow for anyone who cycles or scoots to school, also the opportunity to get your bike checked over or repaired!

Reception parent information session is this Thursday morning at 9am in the school hall.

It is with a heavy heart that we say good bye and good luck to Mrs. Smith on Friday..............in order to celebrate Mrs. Smith's "shamazingness" the whole school is going to be able to wear their brightest, most shamazing outfit on Friday and make a donation to Mrs. Smith's chosen charity.

See you all tomorrow!

 A #InspiredToLearn Artistic Opportunity

Now in its third year, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 5 - 19 studying in the UK and British schools overseas. Artworks are judged by artists and arts professionals with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts.

We just had to get involved!

What is The Royal Academy Young Artists Summer Show?

Artists are at the heart of everything at the Royal Academy of Arts – they’ve been championing them since 1768 and firmly believe in nurturing young talent and celebrating the next generation of artists.

Taking inspiration from the annual Summer Exhibition, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is an opportunity for young artists aged 5 - 19 years to exhibit their work online and on-site at the Royal Academy.

The project is generously supported by Robin Hambro, a passionate advocate for the importance of access to art, and the benefits of encouraging the arts, for children and young people.

A panel of passionate and award-winning artists and arts professionals work together each year to select artworks to exhibit online and on-site at the Royal Academy.

Your artwork could be among those the judges select this year!

How do I enter?

We are registered as a school and you can submit up to 3 pieces of artwork, these can be works of art created at home or in school, in the past or something you are working on currently.  They can also be collaborative pieces that have been created by you with support of a group of other children.  There is no set theme or media for your artwork - It can be a painting, sculpture, photograph, installation, video, drawing, or a combination.

For each artwork submission you will need a jpeg image/s of the artwork along with details including a title, medium and a short description, child’s name and age.  Please see the attached guide for taking your photos.

Send your photos to a.johnson@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk

The closing date for submissions is 26th April 2021

The full terms and conditions are available on the Royal Academy Website.

What happens next?

Your artwork will be seen by a panel of judges and the selected pieces will be shown in our online exhibition. Some of the artworks will also be selected to be shown at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Prizes

Prizes are awarded each year for two inspiring artworks from each key stage, as chosen by the President of the Royal Academy, and you can also vote for your favourite artwork in The Royal Academy’s annual People’s Choice Award.

Reception - Summer Term.................Here comes the sun!

Summer Term......................"here comes the sun!!!!!" Yippee!!!!!!!!!! And light at the end of the COVID tunnel!!!!!

A few changes: We will now be in a bubble with Year 1 and Year 2, breakfast club and aftershool club provision is now being held in the Staff Room within the new bubble - should you wish to access this, please see Mr. Edmond in the office. There are also 2 after school clubs open to our new bubble - Dance Fitness on a Monday and Multi-Sport on a Thursday - again you need to book for these activities.

This week marks the start of "The Big Pedal"..........we ask as many of you as possible to scoot or cycle to school (parents included) - we record this data as a school and then it goes into a National data base.........we are very competitive and have done incredibly well in the past!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully, we will be enjoying beautiful weather, therefore please ensure your child has a named sun hat in school. We suggest you apply 8 hour suncream before they come to school, if you would like your child to have more reapplied, please leave a clearly named bottle with one of the team at the gate and we will keep it in the cupboard - thank you!

We have a super exciting term of learning planned - the over arching theme is "Mini Beasts to Giant Beasts".................we will begin by being scientists and explorers learning all about insects and then, after half term we will be travelling back in time to meet Mary Anning and find out who she was, as well as learning all about the Aquatic Reptiles that used to inhabit our Jurassic Coast...........there may well be a trip involved too!!!!!!!!

Requests: We have a stunning new outside play house and would love any unwanted scarves, hats, bags, glasses (glass removed), jewellery or house hold objects!

Junk modelling would also be fantastic - particularly small boxes, containers or pots.

We are always grateful for unwanted craft items, gems, sequins, lace, buttons, beads, pebbles etc too!

If you have too many bedding plants, we can give any spares a good home!

See you all tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!
