Reception W/C 25th November 2019 + home learning.

We hope you are all having a cosy time inside as it is horrid outside!!!!!!!! Or maybe you are at the cinema watching Frozen 2????????? The children were so excited about this yesterday!!!!!!!

Our science morning at THS was incredible! We went on a trip to the moon - and experienced the awe and wonder of science, with a chemistry focus in particular. There was a rocket to take us there and all the children made their own rockets shoot into the air. We saw flames change colour to represent the planets, we saw a magic alien liquid shoot out of a large cylinder as never ending hot foam. We even made our very own alien slime!!!!!! Thank you THS, it was such a priviledge and a treat!
Our curiosity for science will continue the week after next as we launch our STEM week!!!!!!!!!

Please could all Power Maths books be returned by the end of the week - thank you! The new ones will be sent home after Christmas, as they are termly units!

We purposely didn't send the home learning books home as we would like to continue to build upon the skill of oracy and the development of language and vocabulary. Please could you email me a photograph of your child doing an activity - it can be anything from baking, playing a board game, drawing, going for a walk to horse riding, dancing, singing...........we will then show the pictures on the big screen over the week and each child will have a turn to talk to the class about their picture and answer questions from the class. My email address is on the school website under the Reception tab.

The theme for our learning this week will be the Nativity story. We will add to the provision as the week develops, according to how the children access the areas.

Have a lovely, cosy family time this weekend.

Reception w/c 18th November 2019

Hello Everyone,

I am sure you will all join us in saying a massive "Well done" to all the children for their super performance in their first class assembly last Friday. Such confidence! We couldn't be more proud of them!

Our focus this week is a Reception, age appropriate, approach to mental health. We are using Paddington and Jenny Jigsaw to explore issues such as worry, self esteem, anger - calming down strategies and self regulation, sharing and negotiation skills, positivity and looking on the bright side! The children have been advising Paddington on ways to deal with these feelings and skills.

Thank you for all the amazing Time To Talk home learning that has been coming in - we aim to play the songs that the children listened to over the next few weeks. Do keep listening to different genres of music and encouraging children to appraise them, dance to them, sing along!

If your child is interested in learning a musical instrument, pop in to our office to find out more.

In preparation for Christmas we are starting to learn some Christmas songs which you may like to practice at home (they are easy to find on you tube). Away in a Manger, Little Donkey, It was on a Starry Night, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!

Tomorrow morning we will DEFINITELY be going to THS for our Science morning!

See you all later!

Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Smith.

Reception Monday 11th November 2019

Good evening!

In your Power Maths booklets, at home, we have completed unit 4 week 8 which is page 17. The children have been exploring change within 5 - one more and one less by telling stories "first there were 5 carrots, then Peter rabbit ate one carrot, now there are 4 carrots".

This week we will be moving on to unit 5 - time. We will ask for the books to be returned during the week commencing 18th November. A new book will come home at the end of that week.

We will be learning about Remembrance Day this week.

Many of the RWInc groups have been learning or reviewing "special friends" - ng th ch sh nk.

My group have begun using magnetic letters to blend and read words. Mrs. Smith's group have begun reading the red books and green words!

Please keep practising oral blending at home. The more exposure the children have the better!

Our science trip has been reschedule to the 21st November.

Two more groups will have the chance to have a gymnastic lesson with Mr. Daley on Wednesday.

DON'T FORGET IT IS OUR FIRST CLASS ASSEMBLY THIS FRIDAY - 9:20 IN THE SCHOOL HALL.

I cannot wait to see you all tomorrow!

Reception, Tuesday 5th November 2019

It was such a joy to see you all today Reception! We loved hearing about how Winnie the Pooh got on at Reuben's house! He did a lot of eating, baking, scary halloween activities and partying!!!!!!

After asking the children what they would like to learn about, we had a lot of super ideas: astronauts, volcanos, dinosaurs, dragons, making and designing, books and outside learning. Mrs. Smith and I  will be putting our thinking caps on...........ofcourse we will wait until Thursday to see what sparks of curiosity come from our science morning!

FYI : Mr. Daley, our PE specialist, is coming in tomorrow morning. 2 topic groups will do the gymnastics with him; we decided to do this so that a smaller group of children will benefit from more 1:1 teaching and for a longer time ensuring maximum impact. We will then rotate this the following week and so on so that all children will get this fantastic opportunity. If PE bags are on your child's table in the morning, please could you give them a helping hand to get changed, thank you!

In assembly today we learned all about bonfire night safety after having enjoyed toasting marshmallows and eating hot dogs around the Roundhouse campfire with Pre-School.

Have a great and safe bonfire night!
