Homes, Pirates and apples

 Hi Reception Families,

We had an absolutely cracking week and it was a busy one too!

In Understanding the Natural World, we were food technologists and helped Chef Debs by investigating which liquid would stop apples from turning brown after they have been cut, we made predictions and then painted the liquid onto the apple, we made observations over 24 hours and discussed our findings.

In Understanding the World we were learning all about the different types of homes people can live in, we had a go at drawing, creating or building our own house

In English this week, it has been all about pirates. On Tuesday the magic teapot brought us a treasure map from Far Far Away land, we went to investigate on our very own ship. We also had an absolutely fantastic time on Thursday dressing as pirates! ARGHHH we will continue our Pirate focus next week!

In Expressive Art and Design, we were further developing our sketching skills, this week focusing on shading.

In PE with Mr Treble we were playing team games.

Thank you to all those who attended the Parent Information Session on Wednesday, a recording of the session has been sent to all families,

Moving our attention to next week:

UTW: Sunflowers

English: The Night Pirates

Maths: Composition

As ever please do not hesitate to get in touch if we can help.

SCARF, Volcanoes and PE with Mr Treble

 Hi Reception Families,

What a busy week we had!

We had a fantastic PE session with Mr Treble on Tuesday and really enjoy our SCARF session with Harold, our focus was on Mental Health, being resilient, and the power of the word 'Yet' reminding us that we can always try again.

In Understanding the World, we were learning about Volcanoes, I wonder if the children can remember the difference between magma and lava? We loved building volcanoes in the sandpit, creating them in make and create, drawing them, being our very own volcanoes. On Thursday we conducted a science experiment using Vinegar and Bicarbonate of Soda. The children made observations of what was happening, during the reaction. We went into the hall and used our bodies to represent a volcanic eruption.

In Expressive Art and Design, this week we introduced the artistic skill of sketching, we made observations from a photograph of a sunflower. The drawings the children made were absolutely amazing, what talented and skilled learners we have in Reception. It blew my socks off!!

In English we are exploring all things Pirate! We have loved reading The Night Pirates and this focus will continue next week.

Turning our attention to next week:
