Birds, the Farm and Odds and Evens

 Hi Receptions Families,

Firstly the whole team would like to say a great big thank you to all your support, kind words and good will last week. The children were absolutely wonderful all week.

We had a fabulous, if rather wet trip to the farm, those little legs walked a long way.

In English we have finished our focus on The Extraordinary Gardener and this week children will be bringing home their pea plants.  We would love it see some photos of how they continue to grow at home.

In maths we were learning about Odd and Even numbers, this is a tricky concept and we would encourage supporting children with this concept at home. They have learnt the signs for Odd and Even too I wonder if they can show you?

In Understanding the World, we explored all about birds this week, the children's knowledge of this garden favourite was impressive! We made nests, a wormery and had a fantastic time playing 'volcanoes' outside in the sand pit.

Turning our attention to next week, firstly I can't believe it it the last week of the Spring Term!

But secondly and most importantly on THURSDAY at 3:00 we will be having a Tiger Who Came to Tea  #inspiredtolearn Tiger Tea Party, we would love for you to join us for this special tea party to celebrate the end of term. Please keep it as a surprise for the time being as the children are going to 'invite' you tomorrow. If you are unable to make the tea party but another family member or friend can they are most welcome to join us!

Planting, minibeasts and counting to 20

 Hi Reception Families.

It was another busy week this week.

In English we have continued our focus on The Extraordinary Gardener, this week we had a go at planting our own seed and we've been practising writing sentences using fingers spaces.

In Maths we've been learning all about doubles, noticing that doubles are an equal amount.

The children absolutely love this counting video:

In PE we were travelling and balancing and practising our jumping and landing skills.

This week in Understanding the World we've been learning all about Minibeasts and we had a fantastic play project on Superworm!

Moving our attention to next week:

On Tuesday we will be visiting the lambs at Maiden Castle Farm. Children MUST  bring wellies and wet weather clothes with them. They can wear their own bottoms but should wear their school top and jumper. We will leave school at 9:30 and be back in time for lunch. If you would like to accompany us on this trip you would be very welcome. I would also recommend spare clothes just incase they get wet and muddy.

English: The Extraordinary Gardener

Maths : Composition and doubles

Understanding the World: Birds

DT: Designing a boat.

As ever please do get in touch if we can help.

Boats, sticks and World Book Day

 Hi Reception Families,

What a busy book filled week we had!

Thank you to all our mystery readers, the children really enjoy story time each day. Fantastic effort of the costumes on Thursday the children really enjoyed themselves, did they tell you they had a visit from Supertato and Evil Pea?

In English this week we have started a new book called The Extraordinary Gardener, on Tuesday we had our first visit to the forest school area, we explored our surroundings, found 'nature's treasures' and enjoyed using our senses, we particularly enjoyed listening to the birds singing!

In DT we explored the differences between boats and ships and in maths we explored the number 7, did you know 5 and 2 makes 7?

We welcomed the better weather and really enjoyed playing outside this week too!

Turning our attention to next week:
