Jungles, staircasing and puddles

 Hi Reception Families.

What a FANTASTIC first week back we had, the children were absolutely amazing this week, we have been so impressed with their attitude towards their learning, their curiosity in their questions and their kindness in their play.

We have got stuck in straight away to our new topic of Amazing Animals with Jungle Week, this week have explored what a jungle is and what animals live there and where they are in the world. In Expressive Art and Design we made a parrot, using our knowledge of colour mixing to create different shades and colours. We had a fantastic play project where we made a jungle animal and their home.

In maths we practised adding one more to create a staircase and practised our counting to 20.

We have been practising our threading, we found this tricky and practising threading pasta at home would be a fantastic way to keep improving our fine motor skills.

In DT/Science we investigated which materials are waterproof and what waterproof means.

The weather was against us for most of the week, but we really enjoyed jumping in the odd puddle or two and really enjoyed playing outside when we could!

Thank you for all of the homework feedback sheets for Maths, it is fantastic to read how so many children go on with their home learning.

Turning our Attention to next week:

English: I will not ever never eat a tomato

Maths: Composition

Understanding the world: Safari Animals.

DT/Science: Objects that float.

Please ensure your child has spare clothes and wellies in school as we will be going out as much as we can.

As ever please do get in touch if there is anything we can do to help.

Kapla, sky scrapers, and making purple

 Hi Reception Families,

What a busy week we had!

On Monday we had our fantastic Kapla workshop, the children really enjoyed the workshop. We also started our learning about China, we started with a fantastic play project where we learnt about Sky Scrapers. On Tuesday we learnt all about The Great Wall of China!

Thank you for all those who came to our Maths Mastery session on Tuesday morning. If you were unable to make it, your child should have brought home some home learning this week. These are very simple, straight forward activities you can do every day at home with your child, there is a feedback sheet to complete and return to school. We would really like to see these. There will be a six week focus on maths home learning. Whilst on the subject of homework after positive feedback from parents about how much the children are enjoying home learning I have sent home the usual sheet as well, if you only complete one, please complete the maths work. For the time being we will continue to have a 'colouring' focus as this is an area of development for lots of children.

On Wednesday we had our HSBC money sense workshop and on Thursday we really enjoyed making the colour purple in art!

All the children enjoyed playing in our Chinese Restaurant this week too!

Moving our attention to next week:

Understanding the World: Luna New Year

Drawing Club: The Magic Paintbrush

Maths: More or Fewer

Art: Making Grey.

Inset day on Friday.

A Note about Snack:

The government recommends that children are provided with a healthy snack to have during the day, such as fruit, which we provide. We are seeing an increasing number of children bringing in crisps or biscuits for snack, please ensure if you are providing your child with a snack, it is a healthy one.

A Reminder: Children are not allowed to bring toys in from home, please ensure that your child does not bring anything with them, it causes difficulties as these toys may get lost or broken.

Well I can't believe the first half of the Spring Term is almost complete, what a whirlwind! The children are being brilliant!

If there is anything you need help with or would like to discuss please do get in touch.
