Boats, Pirate and Dance Day

 Hi Reception Families,

It really has been quite the week!

We had a fantastic time at sports day on Monday and our amazing train trip to Weymouth on Tuesday (see previous posts.)

We've continued our theme of pirates this week and the piratey fun has continued.

Our main focus this week has been a DT project. We started the week by investigating the question 'what does waterproof mean?' We then conducted experiments testing variety of materials to see if they were waterproof.

We then learnt all the different types of boats and the function of different parts of a boat. We then became designers and designed our own boats. On Thursday we made our boats from junk modelling the children were careful to only choose waterproof materials.

On Friday we tested our designs to see if they would float and if they were waterproof.

The work the children completed across this sequence of learning absolutely blew us away, it was all outsanding!

On Thursday afternoon the children had their final transition session into Year One.

We were sad that you weren't able to join us for Dance Day today, but I would like to assure you that the children were absolutely amazing! I am so very proud of them!

I hope you are pleased with the children's sunflowers, they have taken excellent care of them this term, good luck continuing to grow them (they could go in the ground or into a bigger pot.)

It has been a really wonderful week this week.

I can barely believe I am typing these words, but next week is our last week together in Reception. It will be a fun filled end of the year.

On Tuesday we will be having some time with our Year 4 Buddies, on Wednesday we will (weather permitting) having some time at the park and short party in the afternoon.

On Thursday we will take part in the Leavers Assembly for Year 4.

Next week children will begin to bring home some of their work from the year so it may be handy to have an extra carrier bag with them for us to store bits in.

This week has really embodied what fantastic learners and fabulous tiny people our Reception Class are, its been a joy!

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you Monday for the final week of the year!

Train trip to Weymouth

 Hi Reception Families!

What a wonderful time we have had today, the children were absolute fantastic walking superstars today.

They walked so far!

We had a wonderful time on the train and noticed lots of differences between our train journey at Pecorama  and our journey today.

We enjoyed our chip lunch and played on the beach with our friends in Year 2

I'm going to let the photos do the talking.

A huge thank you to our friends at South Western Railway for making this trip possible.

Trip reminders, sports day and round up of last week

 Hi Reception families,

First and foremost and update and reminder for our trip tomorrow.

Children can wear comfortable bottoms and trainers but should wear their school jumper and shirt. Children must bring a suitable jacket or coat with them as there is rain forecast for during the trip. We are crossing our fingers that the weather will not be too unkind, however we will review this in the morning before setting out.

Children will need to bring a drink from home with them. Thank you for all the money collected so far towards our chips for lunch, if you would like your child to have chips please provide £3 tomorrow morning. If you would prefer they did not have chips for lunch please provide a suitable packed lunch (in a bag for the child to carry with them.)

We are hoping for good weather so please send your child in with a sun hat too!

Thank you for supporting us with sports day today, the children we brilliant and as a team we are extremely proud of them all!

And of course our brilliant grown up races! Thank you for displaying such great sportsmanship in front of the children it's really important for children to see collaborative sports not just competitive.

I'm sorry to say there was a technical hitch with the photo's last week but here is a round up of another fantastic few days learning in Reception. Our focus was All About Pirates!

We did a fantastic Pirate Themed Play Project.

We also made pirates and gave them a character, including a Captain's Name

In Maths we practiced using a Ten Frame to count amounts, including our number bonds to five.

We are still looking after our Sunflowers (expect these home early next week)

Don't forget it's Dance Day on Friday at 2:30, the children are working really hard on their dance!

As ever, please do get in touch if you need anything!
