Reception - Goings On...

Hello everyone,

I really couldn't give this blog post one title as there are so many things I just want to mention all in one go.

To start, I'd like to mention what learning has been going on... Both Mrs. Smith and I were simply amazed by some of the fantastic writing that was created in our 'Big Write!' This week. Some children wrote Seaside poems whilst others write about our visit from the Sea Life Centre on Wednesday.

With our maths learning we have been really honing on our number skills: Counting, number recognition to 20 and adding and subtracting - always with objects - this will continue after half-term also.

TOMORROW - As you may already be aware, we have Wessex FM coming in to run their breakfast show. Some of the reception children will be taking part in a quick phonics blast from 8.50am so please come to school a bit earlier if you would like to!

Mrs. Smith was busy last night preparing a new-look small world area too. Children were chomping at the bit to get in there this afternoon!

Of course, I must mention that today and tomorrow will see the departure of 2 of our class members. They will always be considered class members and are welcome back anytime. Bon voyage and absolute best of luck for the future. Make good use of those rockets!

Finally, here are a few things that words can simply not do justice to, you just have to see the pictures...

Tomorrow is the end of yet another half term! We will be sending home PE kits for a wash!

Reception - Award Time!

Image result for awards

Hi all,

As we approach the end of yet another half-term we will be awarding a new set of children with our half-termly awards. If you received an award last half-term (before Easter) could we please ask you to bring it back in to school so it can be passed on to the new winner - you never know, it could be coming straight back again! There will be little slips in the book bags of the children who received an award last half-term. Thank you.

Reception - Ground Force!

Hello everyone,

This week we have been out in our garden area planting, potting and generally cleaning up the space. Some very green fingered children out there. We have planted carrots, lettuce, spring onions and tomatoes!

The children were all very disappointed to learn that the plants could take weeks to grow and wouldn't be fully grown by tomorrow!

Reception - Our New Role Play Area...

Hi all,

We have sat down with the children recently and after some brilliant ideas (bat cave and ice castle) we have decided to turn our role play area downstairs into an ice cream shop. We have begun this work today with the children's help, BUT... we need a bit of help. If you have access to any of these things, we would love to be able to add them to our role play area and give children an even more special space to learn and explore in.

  • Ice cream tubs
  • Ice cream scoops
  • Sundae glasses/containers
Personally, I see this as a request to go out, buy some ice cream and it!

Also today we got busy making 'Apple Boats.' What are they you ask...! Children got to cut up an apple - which we discovered float very well - and make a mast and sail. Some of these came home today; due to their nature they probably won't last terribly long.

Reception - Bravo! Bravo!

Hi all,

I must say that as a teacher I was incredibly proud of the children's performance this morning in their class assembly - I can only imagine what it must have felt like as a parent! They all performed with such character. To consider the first assembly in November and now this one in May, it is quite remarkable the growth.

As well as a class assembly today, we have also visited the Life Education Van - children will have come home with an information pack if you requested one.

We also began preparing for some sports day events with Mr Treble this afternoon.

Then, of course, to finish, we had to have a treat... I wonder if you can work out what it was from the pictures!?

Reception - What Were You Doing Yesterday?

Hello everyone,

What were you up to Yesterday morning? Whatever it was, I bet it wasn't doing some of the things we were up to! We were off on our trip to the beach. Lots of things happening so please ask your children about the trip if you get the chance. I hope the pictures do the trip justice!

Unfortunately, we did not see any killer whales.

Reception - Trip Tomorrow!

Image result for beach trip

Hello everyone,

A reminder that the Reception class our out on their beach trip tomorrow morning! Please could we ask that children come to school in play bottoms and their school tops - this will make it easy to identify children. We are not expecting a particularly hot day tomorrow but sun cream may still be a good thing, as we will be outside for most of the morning.
Thank you if you have offered to help tomorrow! Please feel free to stay in the classroom after drop-off and we will go through all the necessary information.

Here's to a fun morning at the beach!

Reception - Assembly Lines

Hi all,

A quick note to say that all children should have come home with their assembly line(s) this evening. We have shown these to children and they have had a little go this afternoon but as always, any extra practice that can be managed at home helps to build confidence and delivery!

We look forward to sharing our assembly with you this Friday at 9.20am!

Reception - What Does a Reception Classroom Look Like?

Hello everyone,

An update on what we have been learning this week...

We have been learning about the seaside and have made a list of things that we think we may see when we go to Weymouth beach next week. The Killer whale could be a long shot.
In literacy we have read the Lighthouse Keepers Lunch and write about our favourite sandwiches and how you might go about making a sandwich. In maths we are revisiting our number topics. If you are unsure what your child is focusing on in school, please feel free to look at our 'Next Steps' wall
As you can see from the pictures we are always very busy and ALL the children have been just super busy this afternoon with their own learning.

Finally, a couple of reminders.
  • We have a superhero dress up day this Friday - linked to 'The Big Pedal'.
  • A first reminder that we have our reception class assembly next Friday that you are all invited to come and see.
  • Thank you for all the beach trip letters we have had back already. Please can you bring your letter back in to school before next Thursday. We will not be able to take your children on this trip without your consent.
