Sports relief walk!

The entire school decided to take the Sports Relief challenge today; the school’s ‘Children’s Voice’ decided that they too would like to face a challenge, walking 1.75 miles from school to Maiden Castle and back. Despite it being rather chilly and a Friday afternoon, the children did this in super spirits and attitude. We were also pleased to see the Yr 4 children clearly supporting their buddies from Reception class to complete the walk.

We would like to thank the super turn out of parents today, enabling the children to complete this walk. The children have raised over £150 today and should be extremely proud of their efforts and awareness of supporting such a worthy charity.

What we're up to this week...

Hello everyone,

We're nearly at the end of another term! There's a few things happening in the rest of this week and next week that I've outlined below. This week in school we are learning lots about change and how animals change as they grow older - including ourselves. As well as this we are making an Easter hat that all the children are decorating themselves. In literacy we're writing stories about finding a mysterious animal and in maths we're learning about time. We are introducing children to o' clock times using clocks as well as all the vocabulary that goes with time: before, earlier, later, this morning/afternoon/evening, soon etc. As well as this we'll be continuing to develop the days of the week and months of the year

  • This Friday (18th) is sports relief and we are dressing up in our sports gear. We have stressed to children that there are lots of sports to choose from and a superman or princess dress won't quite be what we're after. Also on this day we're doing a sponsored walk to Maiden Castle. This will require some sensible footwear. Also, if anyone is available to help we would be very grateful to have you along. It will start at 1.30pm roughly - so please let us know if you're interested.
  • Next Thursday (24th) is the last day of term. On this day we have our class assembly, that you are all invited to, at 9.20am. We have already begun our preparations for this and hope you will be able to make it. POWSA are also running an Easter Cafe this day. You are welcome to come in to school a little earlier to take children to the cafe if you would like to. More details will follow regarding this. On top of all these we will also do the normal end of term things like sending PE bags home, emptying trays and wishing you all a great break.
If you have any questions about any of this please come and speak to one of us!

Sport relief this Friday!

Sport Relief is this Friday the children can come in to school in their sports wear. From 1.30pm the whole school will be walking to Maiden Castle. We would like lots of parental support for this walk. If you are free and able to walk with your child's class please see your child's class teacher.

We are asking for a £1 donation for this sponsored walk.

Thank you

help#greenhouse

Any spare help?!

You may have seen that the plastic bottle greenhouse is starting to take shape, but we do not some people to come in and volunteer to help us complete all sides. Then we will have a last collection of bottles to create the roof. Please come in and speak to Mr Gibson R or Mrs Webb (Yr 2) if you have a spare hour to help? We know the children will love using this resource when completed!

Home learning ideas...

Time to Reorganize: Tips From Two Teachers -- Come get inspired to reorganize your space!:

Hello everyone,

As promised, below are some ideas that you can get your teeth stuck in to at home. As always, we love to see anything that you have created, written or worked out in school!

  • Lots of chances to discuss things that will be changing all around us! See if you can spot and write down 4 things that are going to change soon i.e leaves start growing.
  • Plant some seeds/bulbs outside in your garden. Talk about what the seeds will need to grow.
  • Make a list of words associated with Spring. Cut them out in a leaf shape!
  • Draw 3 pictures that show how a butterfly is born! Write labels underneath.
  • See if you can make a list of all the animals you can think of that are born from eggs.
  • Solve this problem: In one field there were 6 sheep and in another field there were 4 sheep. 2 of the sheep from field one gave birth to baby lambs. How many lambs were there altogether in both fields?
  • Use your fingers in paint to make a blossoming tree - like below.
  • Write down 3 things that prove something is alive - harder than you think!
We look forward to seeing what you get up to!

The times they are-a-changing...

Hello everyone,

Today we began a new topic that will keep us going until the end of the term. We'll be looking at 'Changes'. This includes the things that are changing all around us and will begin to start changing from now! Today we listened to a story called 'The Not so Boring Day' where we began thinking about all the animals and plants that begin life as one thing and then change into another. A talking point at home could be to think of as many animals as you can that come from eggs. We had a little go at this earlier on but the list is huge! I'll pop some more home learning ideas on this week for you to have a go with.
Also this week, we'll be making nest cakes - as Easter is fast approaching - and go back over 3D shapes and the properties of these. The shapes we look at are cube, cuboid, sphere, cylinder, cone and pyramid (both 3 & 4 sided). There are lots of these around the house so draw attention to them when you see them!

Science trip to Thomas Hardye

Hello everyone,

Today we went up to Thomas Hardye school to take part in a science enrichment trip. It was great fun; we got to watch lots of reactions and even got to carry out a couple of experiments ourselves! We made some alien slime and combined a substance with water to create a small bang! The children were extremely well behaved and showed us some very insightful knowledge. Please ask your child about what happened today as they should hopefully be able to tell you.
We will be sending children home tomorrow with their wellies and any other clothing that they have been using this week - thank you for bringing this all in.

Joint day with Pre-school

Hello everyone,

Today we had another joint day with Pre-school children! We did more activities that had an Eco theme. One activity was the continuation with the greenhouse that we are making - slowly but surely. We also started our planting for the year by planting a selection of plants and vegetables. More will be planted as the weeks go by. Hopefully, by July, we'll have carrots, potatoes, onions, spinach, lettuce and strawberries. The final job today was making bird food that could be hung up so expect to see these popping up over the next couple of days. At the end of the day we had a special treat; hot chocolate and biscuits!
Tomorrow we have a little trip up t Thomas Hardye School to take part in a science enrichment session. This will be from 11.30-13.00pm so if anyone is available to help please let us know tomorrow morning. We appreciate that it is an odd time for a trip.
On Friday we'll be joining up with Pre-school once again to carry out a scavenger hunt in the school grounds. Let's hope the weather is better than it was today.
