Sports morning!

Hi all,

A very successful sports morning this morning. Thank you all for coming along to watch your children! We were very impressed by their attitude and perseverance with all the activities. Some very competitive parents as well! Thank you all for joining in! We should have some pictures available for you to see tomorrow on the big board. All the children will receive a certificate recognising their participation in the morning - these will come home tomorrow.

Honeybrook Farm trip

Hi all,

The children had a lovely time at Honeybrook Farm today. We were very lucky with the weather and got to do lots of things when we got there. To start with each family group got to go into the pets corner and hold both a guinea pig and a rabbit! Some children certainly overcame their fears doing this. Whilst this was happening the other half of the class got to explore the other animals that are kept on Honeybrook Farm - donkeys, ponies, pigs, sheep, cows. After lunch we got to go on a tractor and trailer ride around the farm before finishing off with a bit of play in the play area.
We will be using our trip today in our literacy sessions this week. We will be making a story map before retelling the events of the day.
Thank you to all the parents that helped with this trip and hope you are back with us soon Harry!

Honeybrook Farm and sports morning

Hello everyone,

Oh my what a busy week we have ahead. Tomorrow is Reception's first all day trip to Honeybrook Farm. Please come to school wearing your school top and jeans/play trousers. We will be taking the sun creams we have in school but please put some on children before school - if you would like to leave us some sun cream for your child, please come and see us in the morning. It would be great if you could bring sun hats as well - we do have some spares -  as well as lots of water.
On Tuesday reception will have their first sports morning. Parents are more than welcome to come and watch this! There will be chairs placed on the playground and the field for you to use. Reception will be starting on the playground, practicing the skills that we have been learning all year. We will then head on to the field for our races!

Finally, Thursday is 'Bump up' afternoon and reception will be visiting year 1 to meet their new teacher and do some activities. More information will follow on this.

Home learning...

Hi all,

We've had a very busy last few weeks so haven't posted much in the way of home learning on here. Apologies. Next week will be our whole school healthy living week so below are a few ideas for some possible home learning.
We are also planning to have a 'Walk to school' week where a chart will be up in the classroom for you to check off when you walk to school. More information to follow.

  • Draw and write down your 5-a-day fruit and vegetables.
  • Design a new healthy meal for school hot dinners - these can be submitted.
  • Make a poster about brushing your teeth.
  • Write down all the exercise you do over a few days/the weekend.
  • Keep a food diary.
  • Measure your heart rate when static and after exercising - write the numbers down.
We look forward to seeing what you come up with.

This week!

Hi all,

This week we actually have a rather normal week! We are going to be continuing with the theme of Eco and some of the things we can do to help our planet. Sports morning is next Tuesday for reception - more information will follow regarding logistics - so we will be finalising our preparations for this! The children have shown quite a competitive edge in the lessons we have had so far!
In phonics this week we are going to begin to touch on some of the alternate spellings of sounds. These will be covered much more in-depth in year 1 but the children appear to be ready for a brief introduction before the end of the year! The new spellings are 'ay', 'ou' and 'ea'.
We will hopefully be having an invention conference on Friday to showcase some of the things the children have been making. There are some super ideas so please stand by for some pictures. We're also going to be doing a bit of evaluating with our inventions; thinking about what went well and what we would change if we were to do it again.

Finally, I hope you all received a letter on Friday about Honeybrook Farm lunches - if not please come and speak to us tomorrow. Just to restate that if you do intend to bring in a packed lunch for your child please could you cancel your normal meal at the office tomorrow. Thank you! I know it seems to be a lot of fuss.

Honeybrook Farm - lunches

Hi all,

As there may be some confusion over lunches when we go to Honeybrook Farm I thought it would be useful to try and explain what will be happening.

If you normally have a hot school meal, a packed lunch will be provided on the day so you will not have to worry about bringing in a pack lunch for your child. If you normally have a packed lunch at school, you will need to send your child in with a packed lunch for the day. If you would like to provide your own packed lunch you may do so but we ask that you cancel your school meal for that day otherwise we will end up receiving too many.

Hopefully that explains it but any questions please come and ask one of us.

Eco, Art and science week

Hello everyone,

Today saw us begin a whole-school themed week. We began by looking at several pictures of rubbish and how we can throw rubbish away into land fill sites and recycle large amounts now. We then read a book by Quentin Blake called 'Mrs. Armitage on Wheels'. In the story Mrs. Armitage keeps adding creations to her bike until it all goes a bit pear-shaped. From this story the children have begun to design their own inventions that will be made from completely recycled materials. We'll hopefully have an invention conference at the end of the week where you'll be able to see all the wonderful, wacky ideas - and there are some fantastic ones.
This Friday will also see the close of the Art competition for this year. For more info see: http://pow-reception.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/why-not-get-creative-this-weekend-and.html

Tomorrow is the Blue family's trip to Pizza Express. It is supposedly going to be quite warm so please make sure your child has sun cream and a hat. We can reapply sun cream to those children that have brought some into school.

Assembly

Just a quick reminder about reception's final class assembly tomorrow morning at 9.20am. Please just head straight through from drop-off. As previously stated, it would be great if children could come to school wearing something posh or formal - please don't feel you need to go out and buy a suit. A shirt will be fine! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Short Notice - Ditch your Stabilisers!

Hi all,

I know it is very short notice but due to the high demand of children wanting to take up the 'Ditch your Stabilisers' session after school, Jonathan has kindly offered to come in again tomorrow. If you would like your child to take part just bring their bike along with the stabilisers on or off. You will not need to pick them up at 3.30pm - instead you can collect at 4.30pm. There will be a member of staff with the children at all times. Again, apologies for the late notice.

Amazing Artwork

Why not get involved with this year's Art Competition.  Please hand your entries to your child's class teacher by Friday 19th June.  Adults why don't you get involved too?  The theme is "The Art of Science and Technology."

Friday's dress code

Hello everyone,

This Friday, for our assembly, it would be fantastic if you could send your children to school wearing formal/posh clothes. Get the summer dresses and suits out! They will not have to bring school uniform as we will just stay in the clothes they come in all day. Please note that this is not a non-school uniform day and you do not need to donate anything - it is merely for our assembly. Any questions please ask.

Bike it breakfast - 9th June

On Tuesday 9th June we are holding another "Bike-It-
Breakfast".
All children and parents who cycle or scooter to school
will be offered a drink and healthy flapjack.
We will be running
various other Biking and Scooting activities throughout the day.
This
"Bike-It-Breakfast" coincides with a special assembly we will be having
during the day.
In this assembly, we will be celebrating our
activities as an Eco-School and will be presented with our Eco-Schools
Silver award.

Art Competition 2015

Why not get creative this weekend and join in with our "Art of Science and Technology" art competition.  All adults and children are invited to take part, producing a 2D or 3D piece in any media.

All entries will be displayed in our pop up art gallery on Monday 22nd of June.  This exhibition will be a celebration of our learning in Science and Technology Week through the medium of Art, Craft and Design.

You will also be able to see all entries to our competition.  The gallery will be open from 2:30pm and you are welcome to come and browse!

Go on, get creative!

Assembly lines and home learning

Hello all,

Today the children will have brought home their assembly line(s). If you get any time to practice these it would be much appreciated. Our last class assembly is next Friday (12th) at 9.20am. We are looking forward to seeing you.

As we have begun our new topic I thought it would be useful to include a few home learning ideas. The calibre of the recent home learning being brought in has been fantastic. Keep it up!

  • Find out about Neil Armstrong and what he did.
  • Create your own alien, giving them a name, description, likes/dislikes etc.
  • Write an acrostic poem for the word MOON.
  • Use this website to look at the Earth from above: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/iss-hdev-payload and draw pictures.
  • Choose a planet and make a fact file for it.
  • Finally, in preparation for our Pizza Express trips next week, create your own pizza with a list of the ingredients.
We look forward to seeing some of you fabulous home learning.

The final stretch

Hello all,

Welcome back everyone. It was great to have so many pieces of work handed in this morning. You must have had busy weeks. Thank you to all those that came to this mornings parent information session about Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) that we will be starting in school this half-term through Jigsaw. If you missed this please come and ask us what was covered and we will gladly pass the information on.
Today sees us begin a new topic: Space - the final frontier (couldn't resist). Once again we were wowed by the knowledge the children possessed about space. The art job that we will be doing this week involves making a spaceship porthole. The children will use paper plates, paint and foil to create their own porthole.
There was also a competition started. Based on the book 'Aliens Love Underpants', who could create the best looking pair of pants. Needless to say the children got very engage by this and we nearly had half the class creating their entry by the end of the afternoon!
Also this half term we will be making our final preparations for the sports morning and begin looking at programming in ICT. More on both of these to follow.
