Reception's Little City Experience

 Hello Reception Families and Friends!

We want to start by saying a massive THANK YOU for all of your support through this heatwave! Today, very child who attended has come in with a water bottle, light clothing and ready for the day despite the heat!

Today in Reception we had a wonderful experience with Little City Visit. It was such a joy to watch the children explore! We had an amazing time becoming police officers, doctors, and builders!

How Our ‘Little City’ Adventure Connects to the EYFS Curriculum!

While the children thought they were just having the best playtime ever, they were actually doing some incredible learning! Our visit with Little City perfectly links to several areas of the EYFS curriculum:

Understanding the World (People, Culture, and Communities): The children loved role-playing real-life jobs and exploring different roles within a community. It sparked great conversations about who helps us and how a town works (a great follow up from our Real Life Superheroes Topic).

Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED): We saw beautiful examples of sharing, taking turns with popular props (the ride on police car was a real hit!), and collaborating to build or create together.

Communication and Language: The imaginative play naturally encouraged a wealth of new vocabulary. From ordering a coffee at the café to explaining a medical emergency at the hospital, the language being used was fantastic!

Physical Development: Handling the smaller props, dressing up in costumes, and navigating the different city zones gave their fine and gross motor skills a wonderful workout.

Staying Cool in the Sunshine! ☀️🍦

We also want to send another huge thank you to everyone for helping us manage this current heatwave. Your support with sun hats, water bottles, and pre-applied sun cream has been amazing, and we are pleased to say the children are being absolute superstars in the heat!

To help them stay cool, we have set up a garden sprinkler in the Reception garden. We’ve been letting the children pop out to cool off in the water for about 20 minutes at a time, twice during the morning before peak heat. They are absolutely loving it, and it has been a brilliant way to beat the heat!

A quick request from the team... While the children aren't getting completely soaked, we have found that a few of them really don't like the combined feeling of the outdoor heat and slightly damp clothing. To make sure everyone stays comfortable and happy, could we please ask that you pack some spare, light, and cool clothes in your child's bag? We’ve only had to change a couple of children so far, but having a fresh change of clothes gives them the option to swap if they decide they feel uncomfortable after using the sprinkler.

Thank you all so much for your continued partnership and support. We hope you enjoy looking through the photos!

Miss Godden and The Reception Team
