Hello Reception Families
We had such a busy week last week. The arrival of a very large egg and then lots of inspired to learn play during the week. The highlights were:
Counting candles on a cake in the playdough and working out if the number was odd or even.
Building an assault course and checking it was fair.
Making and reading words
Splatting sounds!
Sharing counters equally and checking if the number is odd or even
We had a very busy week as always!
PE this week:
This week we will have PE with Mr Treble on TUESDAY and THURSDAY. Please remember sun hats and sun cream as we will be outside for these sessions.
RWI assessments:
Staff are completing Read Write Inc assessments this week, so children may be moving to a new colour band on Monday next week. Reading books are changed on a Friday so please make sure Book Bag Books are returned on this day and if you happen to have a pile at home we would welcome their return!
We have another busy and inspired to learn week planned. We are well underway with our dragon theme and the children are really enjoying it. In maths we have begun some learning around 2D shapes and their properties. Do look out for shapes when you are out and about this week.
We are excited about our planned trips. Do let us or the office know if you would like to help on any of these.

Well, what an afternoon we had on our first day back at school! Mrs Rogers shot into the classroom to say something had appeared in the grass outside! We were all very keen to investigate what it could be! When we got outside we found a nest with a giant egg in it! The children loved guessing what on earth could be inside and we are waiting expectantly to see what happens next. We carefully carried it into the classroom and the children even found some blankets to wrap it in to keep it warm. There was lots of lovely talk about what it could be and how we should look after it. Some children were able to use their prior knowledge of eggs and chickens to guess what might happen next and how we should look after it.
What a fabulous start to our Summer term.

Hello Reception families
We are so excited to see you tomorrow and find out what you did in the holidays. Did you manage to make, draw or write about a mythical beast over the holidays? We are looking forward to seeing and hearing about your creations. The staff in Reception are sure they have seen some unidentified flying objects over the Prince of Wales in the holidays so keep your eyes peeled!
Please note that PE will now be on a Friday afternoon. The children should bring back their named PE kit and put it in their locker.
Wellies
We have an abundance of wellies at school so only bring back your own wellies if you really want to! Please make sure they are named.
Hot weather
Now the weather is really warming up it is important that your child has sunscreen on. If possible, please use suncream that lasts all day. Otherwise, provide your child with a labeled bottle of sunscreen that can be applied during the day. The children often spend lots of time outside so it is important that they are protected from the sun. Please also provide your child with a named sun hat that can be kept at school.
Topic
Our topic continues on the theme of beasts, focusing on mythical and Jurassic for the rest of this half term. We hope to be able to get out and about on some visits and we have some exciting things planned.
We can't wait to get started!

Hello Reception families
What a busy and exciting end to this half term we have had! This week we have been to the farm and have also found time to squeeze in lots of learning AND celebrate the jubilee in style! In the classroom we have been:
Making minibeasts
Finishing off a picture of the queen
Finger painting flags
Mr Bascombe did a site inspection and told the builders that their building was not safe and they needed some safety signs. They set to work immediately and were very animated when Mr Bascombe came to check again!
Investigating the water wall
Making Jubilee crowns
What a wonderful end to a very busy week.
Thank you to all families for making me feel so welcome in my first few weeks here at the Prince of Wales School.
We're looking forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday 7th June.

What a wonderful morning we had at the farm. Hazel met us at the farm classroom and we found out about all the animals that live there. We also found out that there are lots of minibeasts that live on the farm too. Our first stop was to have a look around the farm; looking at different machinery, animal habitats and flora and fauna. We then made our way to the lambs where we investigated their wool and watched them feeding from their milk bottles. After this, we went to see the cows and found out that they are beef cows. They are also a bit mucky and we learnt that their cow poo and straw is used on the fields - it's called muck spreading and its very smelly! Finally we set off for the pigs. We fed them our leftover fruit peels from our snack! Before we knew it, it was time to walk back to school. The children were amazing and were on their feet the whole time. The muddy puddles were a big hit! I think we may have some tired children tonight! Thank you to the parents and volunteers that helped on our trip and to Mr Spracklen who came with us too. Mrs March really enjoyed her first trip to the farm with the class and can't wait to go again soon!
