Minibeasts, planting and play projects

Hi Reception Families,

Once again we have had a lovely time this week.

We turned our attention to minibeasts in Understanding the World, we have had two fantastic play projects this week. On Monday children were tasked with making a minibeast, their home and something for them to eat. On Thursday we turned our attention to the story Superworm. Children made a superworm, the wizard lizards lair and his wand. We love watching the children explore their knowledge and understanding through our play projects.

In maths we spent time practicing our number sentences.

We've fully exploited the dryer weather this week, we've had a wonderful time playing and planting this week.

We've been really lucky this week as Ms Cleaver brought some of her minibeast pets in for use to meet!

Turning our attention to next week:

We have very exciting visitors this week, on Monday Dorset Xtreme Falconry are coming to visit as we are learning all about birds this week. I am very very excited to share this experience with the children. On Thursday play extraordinaire and inventor of Drawing Club Greg Bottrill is coming to play, we can't wait to welcome Greg back.

Hungry Caterpillars, Butterflies and Play Projects.

Hi Reception Families,

What a lovely week we have had. I have been really impressed this week with how children have taken change in their stride and how they have demonstrated their resilience and flexibility, both of which form key parts of our Personal Social Emotional Development areas of learning.

This week we have been learning about the lifecycle of butterflies. We have really enjoyed reading The Hungry Caterpillar and learning about the metamorphosis into a butterfly.

On Wednesday we did a play project focussing on the lifecycle. Children has access to a variety of materials and resources to demonstrate their knowledge. Each child made an egg, caterpillar, cocoon and butterfly. As the photos show their work and creativity was impressive.

We also started our first whole class math learning time, this is the beginning of our foundations for transition into Year One, it is important that over the next term or so that children experience pockets of more formal learning mixed within our continuous provision. The children absolutely loved it!

Between 8:45-9:00 children have time to write, draw and colour in their books, this week children have started writing the 'dotty date' on their page. There is a theme each day however, children can follow their own interests if they choose. This is a fantastic opportunity to practice our fine motor, pencil control and drawing skills.

We also really enjoyed our yoga and mindfulness session this week!
