Making green, ice and beanstalks

 Hi Reception Families,

We had a fantastic week, the children loved exploring Jack and the Beanstalk in Drawing Club,  I wonder if they can remember the signs for golden egg and magic harp?

In Understanding the Natural World this week we explored the question 'Does water make ice melt?' which the children had asked the week before. We had a fantastic time using thermometers, timers and water of different temperatures. We timed how long it took the ice to melt in each of the different temperatures.

In Expressive Art and Design we continued our practise of making green using blue and yellow, however this week, we studied leaves and painted what we noticed, the children were fantastic at this, they completely blew me away with their painting skills!

In maths we explored adding one more to make a staircase, this continues to support children's deep understanding of numbers 1-5.

Moving our attention to next week:

Drawing Club: Zog

Maths: Composing and Decomposing Numbers

Understanding the World: Dragons and Knights

Understanding the Natural World: How can we melt ice?

Expressive Art and Design: Making Orange

Please do ensure that children bring warm clothes with them as we go outside in all weathers, we actively encourage them to wear hats/ gloves etc if provided. Please make sure these are clearly named.

Please ensure all grapes are cut as in the picture below, they pose a significant choking hazard to young children.

Information regarding Parent Consultations will be communicated with you directly next week.

Don't forget our Maths Mastery Session is 30/1/24 at 9:00 we are looking forward to sharing our maths approaches with you.

As ever please do get in touch if there is anything we can help with.

Ms Evans and the Reception Team.
