Three Little Pigs, staying healthy and reading records!

 Hello Reception Families,

It's been a lovely week in Reception, this week in drawing club we have been focussing on the traditional tale The Three Little Pigs, we have continued the theme throughout our continuous provision.

We have made Pig or Wolf masks or faces.

We have made houses for the pigs and made a 'button' to change or make them magical

We've also been using our 'buttons' outside, we made our boat go a million times faster. Buttons are a great way to incorporate mark making into play!

And speaking of play, my goodness me we have played and played this week, I have been impressed by how the children are planning, thinking and changing their creations, they are playing so well together! Although at one point they did use buttons to tie Mrs Howell to a tree!

We have had plenty of time practicing our letter formation which has been linked to our RWI

In maths we have been using 5 frames to help us explore changes within 5

In PE we have been practicing our balancing and catching skills and used 'Rainbow breaths' in our mindfulness sessions.

In SCARF this week we have explored kindness, in class we are making our own Kindness scarf, it has been lovely to highlight how kind the children are to each other and staff, I had a few days were lots of children told me how lovely my hair looked!

In Understanding the World, we have been learning about Staying Healthy, as part of this we have made vegetable soup

In Nature Explorers this week we to ate the soup and bread that we made and had a wonderful story all about the different seasons. Thank you Mr Bascombe for cooking our soup for us and to Mrs Howell for helping us make the soup and bread on Thursday!

The children showed enormous respect and contemplation during the two minute silence for Remembrance day and some children made poppies too!

Turning our attention to next week:

Drawing Club: A Dark Dark Tale

Power Maths: Number bonds within 5

Understanding the World: Our Bodies and Funny Bones

General Notices:

All the children have brought home a reading record today, in Reception we would like you to record any stories that you are sharing with your children throughout the week.  Sharing stories is crucial part of Literacy, Communication and Language, Understanding the  World and Personal Social Development which are all part of the Early Learning Goals.  It is also a lovely time to connect with your child. Reading Records must be returned to school on a Friday. Please see the letter sent out this week for further details.

Our new 'Books to Love' scheme will support this reading initiative  and each child will choose a new book every week as long as they have returned the one they are currently borrowing. We have had lots back, however not every child has returned their book this week, so they have not been issued a new one, we can do this early next week once the current book to love has been returned.

We are aware that as an adult reading can be tricky, did you know that 2.4 million adults in the UK can't read? If you do find reading challenging and would like some support,  Read Easy offer specifically tailored support. Which can be accessed here: Read Easy if you would like any support please do get in touch and I will help in any way I can.

As stated yesterday, children have brought their PE kits home and we would like them to come to school wearing them on Tuesdays, to help smooth our transitions. Please refer to the previous blog post for details.

You should have received a letter yesterday regarding our trip to watch a performance of The Naughty Fox on 29th November, this will be a lovely experience for the children.

Have a fantastic weekend and we can't wait to see you Monday

Ms Evans and the wonderful Reception Team.
