Bear hunts, teddy bears and polar bears!

We're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a big one, we're not scared!!!

What a week it has been. In drawing club we have been focussing on Going on a bear hunt, the children utterly enjoyed this, so much so I have included the video of Micheal Rosen reading the story, in case you would like to watch it with them over the weekend. We're Going on a bear hunt

In Understanding the World we have been learning about how teddy bears have changed over time, we had some very special visitors.

Timothy bear is 80 years old and sad bear is over 64 years old! We noticed that their stuffing was hard, and made from wood and straw and we compared them to other teddy bears, including Mrs Bear who has travelled the world of course Paddington Bear!

The children really enjoyed exploring these teddies and they were very respectful and caring towards such old toys.

We've also been learning about bears from around the world, we learnt that Polar bears live in The Arctic and black bears live in Canada and America! We also learnt about what they eat, and that some bears have very long sleeps which are called hibernation! Did you know Pandas eat for 12 hours a day?

We made junk model bears, enjoyed playing with the playdough and loved playing in the bear's cave.

We also really enjoyed making paper airplanes this week!

In PE we experienced some Bear Hunt Yoga.

We all really enjoyed our trip to Maiden Castle Farm on Thursday (see separate blog post for details)

Today we had a teddy bears picnic during Nature Rangers and we went on a bear hunt!!

This was the last session in our current block of Nature Explorers, we will return to Nature Explorers in the summer term, however we will continue to visit the forest school regularly on an adhoc basis throughout the year!

Turning our focus to next week:

There is lots of things going on next week, lots of super exciting things!

Firstly it is our whole school DT STEM week, all children will be involved in the planning and making of an individual project, we are really looking forward to this, however our routines will be slightly different to accommodate all the exciting activities.

On Tuesday morning we are going to The Corn Exchange to watch the Naughty Fox, please remember that we are meeting children at the Corn Exchange at 9:00, we will be getting a coach back to school after the performance.

On Wednesday we will be having PE with Mr Treble in the afternoon, children Should attend in their PE kits, please make sure they are dressed warmly. We will also have the opportunity to have a basketball session session with Coach Luca on Friday afternoon.Friday is Dress like and Elf day, I feel that children will be able to complete the session in their chosen clothes as long as their movement isn't restricted.

The school will be decorated for Christmas theme from next week!

As ever, please do get in touch if I can help with anything.

Maiden Castle Farm Trip

 Hello Reception Families,

We had a fantastic trip to the farm today and luckily we escaped the bad weather, Hooray!

Hazel took us on a bear hunt, we walked around things, through things and over things, whilst expertly telling us all about the farm. Thank you so much for your time today Hazel.

We walked through turnips fields, pretended to be horses in a the horse box, met the cows and asked fantastic questions and joined in discussions about why they have tags in their ears, how many cows there are on the farm. We learnt about the wheat which is grown on the farm. We also met some wonderful pigs!

We had a drink and a snack in the teaching room and discussed how the sheep eat different food in the winter to the spring and summer!

I was so deeply impressed by how they children behaved and how far they walked, not one children muttered that they were tired. They attitudes towards the experience was truly inspired to learn and I felt a huge sense of pride!

I'd like to let the photos do the talking so here they are!

Fantastic amazing job children, you are all incredible!

A very big thank you to the volunteers who accompanied us as well, we really valued your support today.

A very very proud Ms Evans and the reception team

Teddy Bears Picnic

 Hi all,

Tomorrow we would like the children to bring a teddy bear or soft toy from home as during Nature Explorers we will be having a teddy bears picnic with hot chocolate.

I will update in more detail tomorrow but this week we have been learning all about teddy bears and real life bears, whilst focussing on the children's classic We're going on a Bear Hunt!

Because the toys will be going outside, I would not encourage children bring their 'special' soft toy or anything that they need for sleeping or would need over the weekend just incase they get dirty or left behind over the weekend.  We will of course take great care of them however, a toy they like and would be happy talking about but not their special or favourite would be great!

We've had a wonderful trip to the farm and will update with pictures of our adventure later on today!

Many Thanks

Ms Evans

Maiden Castle Farm Trip. We're going on a bear hunt

Hello Reception Families,

On Thursday 24th November we will be going to Maiden Castle Farm. We will be having a tour of the farm with Hazel and we will be hunting for bears!

The trip is weather dependant, but we are hoping we will go even if there is a bit of drizzle. Hazel will let us know on Wednesday if the farm is too waterlogged for us to visit.

Please ensure that children bring welly boots and warm clothes with them, they could come in to school wearing leggings or jogging bottoms and change back into their school uniform when they return to school. We will be encouraging puddle jumping and muddy puddles!

I would like to invite parents or carers to accompany us if you would like to.

We will be leaving school at 9.15 and would request that any adults who would like to accompany us come to the school office at 9.00 and will be returning to school in time for lunch at 12.00

If you have any queries please do get in touch j.evans@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk

Many Thanks

Ms Evans

Funny Bones, our bodies, and a special visitor!

 Hi Reception families,

This week we have been focussing on our bodies and the children's classic Funny Bones following on from our learning about staying healthy last week.

We have made junk model bodies and skeleton pictures, it was wonderful to see the children using their knowledge about the human body in their creative work!

In maths we have been learning about changes within 5 and have been exploring how using a part-whole model can help us find the total all together.

We have had a wonderful time building towns for the skeletons in Funny Bones to explore.

In PE we have focussed on our throwing and catching skills.

We were really impressed with children's effort for Bling you Bike on Thursday.

On Friday we had a special visitor from the Ambulance Service. The children really enjoyed learning about the ambulance and how paramedics help people in our community. A very special thank you for Andy for his time with us today!

Turning our attention to next week:

Drawing Club: We're going on a bear hunt.

Powermaths: Changes within 5

Understanding the world: Teddy Bears from the past and Bears from around the world.

I am thrilled to tell you that on Thursday  24th November  we will be visiting Maiden Castle Farm. I will give further details at the beginning of next week!

General Notices:

Reading Records and Books to Love.

Thank you for all the returned reading records and books, it was lovely to see all the wonderful reading children are experiencing at home. Please return your reading records and Books to Love every Friday and the children can choose another book. The reading records are not just limited to the books the children borrow, you could jot down any other stories that children are having!

PE

We will continue to come to school dressed in our PE kit on Tuesdays next week, please do dress children in jogging bottoms or leggings to ensure they are warm enough throughout the day.

The children brought home an activity related to our visit today, if they return them when completed we will pass them onto the Ambulance Service. (Please make sure they are named)

Until Monday Reception
