Reception - Home learning for 'The Gruffalo'

Image result for gruffalo

Hi all,

As we move further and further into the year we are increasing the amount of time that children are working on tasks and activities set by the adults in the classroom. Children will be taught the skills needed to be successful and given the tools they need to help them learn! We are always encouraging independence in learning and we are seeing some very positive attitudes so far! Any learning that takes place at home is fantastic to us and we would love to see anything that you have made, written, or drawn at home!
With that in mind, we have put some potential home learning ideas down below for you to have a go at! Home learning in reception is not compulsory but can be a great way to show children early on the importance and value of learning at home. We've linked most of the ideas below to our current topic of the Gruffalo...

  • Create your own creature like the Gruffalo! You could then challenge yourself to add some labels to describe the different features.
  • Find 2 rhyming words for each of these words: Fox, Mouse & Snake.
  • Find out one piece of information about either a fox, a mouse, an owl or a snake.
  • Write the word 'Gruffalo' in as interesting way as you can.
  • Find 5 different numbers around your house and write them down, i.e door number

As previously said, it is not an expectation for children to bring in home learning and please don't feel like you have to complete every one of the above activities! Just one would be brilliant. There is also no deadline for bringing bits in! We hope to see lots of different pieces of home learning! Thank you.
