Our First Week at School!

 

Hello Reception Families and Friends!

What an incredible first full week it has been in Reception! 

We wanted to start by saying a huge WELL DONE to every single one of our new superstars. Transitioning into school full-time is a massive milestone, and each and every child should be immensely proud of themselves for being so brave, enthusiastic, and completely amazing this week. We are all definitely feeling a little bit tired after such a busy few days, but the classroom has been full with energy, big smiles, and a fantastic eagerness to learn as everyone settles into their new daily routines.

Here's what we’ve been up to this week:

Phonics

 We officially launched our Phonics journey! The children have been learning their very first set of sounds: m, a, s, and d. We have been reading the sound, spotting the sound in books and in childrens names, writing the sound and have been been orally blending CVC words together!

Maths

We have been diving deep into numbers 1 and 2, exploring what they represent, counting out objects, and looking for pairs around the room.

Early Writing & Mark Making

 To build up those crucial fine motor muscles, we held an exciting mark-making session. The children experimented with a wide variety of tools—from chunky crayons to paintbrushes—to create lines, swirls, and shapes.

Fine Motor & Safety Skills

Snip, snip! We introduced scissors this week, focusing heavily on safety. The children practiced putting the correct fingers in the handles and learned the proper, safe way to carry scissors around the classroom.

Share Bags

The children have loved bringing a piece of home into school! We’ve started sharing our Share Bags and learning more about one another. If your child hasn't had their turn yet, don't worry—we are working through them slowly so everyone gets their special moment.

Year 4 Buddies

A huge highlight was meeting our Year 4 buddies! They visited to read stories with us and helped guide the children through the lunch routine.

Music & Expressive Arts

In music, we explored rhythm by making beats and trying out different musical instruments to keep time. We have also started to learn our first class song:

Cooking & Discovery

We explored a colorful array of fruits and vegetables, talking about their textures, colors, and names.

Exploring & Routines

Beyond our focused activities, the children have had plenty of time to explore both our indoor and outdoor provision areas, make new friends, and learn just how much fun school can be!

• If you don't see your child featured in this week's photos or updates, this is simply due to the media and photo permission settings we currently have on record. If you would like your child to appear in future blog posts, please get in touch with the school office to update your consent details!

• Please remember grapes and small tomatoes need to be cut if you plan to pack them for your child at school.
