Hello Reception Families and Friends!
We hope you have all had a wonderful, restful half-term break and managed to enjoy some of the lovely sunshine.
I realised I didn't quite manage to get a blog out to you before the holidays, but what better way to kick off the new half-term than by looking back at the absolutely spectacular finish we had to the last one?
On our final day before the holidays, Reception hosted the most grand Gruffalo Party! It was an absolute joy to welcome so many parents, families, and friends to celebrate the end of a fantastic half-term with us.
The children were so incredibly proud to showcase their beautiful Gruffalo drawings and they threw themselves into all our themed activities, from role-playing with masks to masterfully tackling puzzles, colouring, and crafts.
Thank You!
I have to say a HUGE thank you to all of our amazing families for the food contributions. The collaborative effort was second to none, and it resulted in quite literally some of the most spectacular Gruffalo-themed party food I have ever seen in all my years of teaching! Thank you for making it so magical for the children.
Important Notices for the New Half-Term
As we head back into the classroom tomorrow, we are entering our final half-term of the school year! It is going to be a busy, fast-paced, and incredibly exciting few weeks. Here is everything you need to know:
Our New Topics & Transitioning to Year 1
We have some brilliant topics lined up to wrap up the year: 'Superheroes', 'Off to the Beach', and 'Growing and Moving On'.
As part of our 'Growing and Moving On' theme, we will be focusing on the transition into Year 1. We know you are all eager to know who your child's new teacher will be! You will be officially informed very soon, and we will be gradually building up transition activities throughout the half-term to ensure the children feel confident, happy, and ready for their next big step.
Forest Schools (Every Wednesday Afternoon)
Forest Schools will be taking place every Wednesday afternoon this half-term, up around the roundhouse area.
What to bring: Please ensure your child has a pair of wellies that stays in their school locker.
What to wear: Children must wear protective clothing on Wednesdays. We strongly suggest covering their legs (long trousers/leggings) to ensure the nettles and outside plants don't scratch them while they explore.
Sun Safety
With the recent warm weather (and hopefully more to come!), please ensure your child is wearing suncream daily, even on overcast days.
Children can bring a bottle of sunscreen to school, but it must be clearly labeled with their name.
Important: For allergy reasons, suncream is strictly never to be shared.
Children will need to apply it to themselves without the help of an adult. To support them with this independence, we highly recommend buying roll-on suncream.
PE & Sports Day Preparation
We will continue to have weekly PE sessions focusing on Athletics in preparation for Sports Day! Due to tricky timetabling this half-term, PE will unfortunately not consistently be on the same day each week. Please keep an eye on the timetable displayed on the classroom door so you can help your child prepare.
Art Donations Wanted
Later in the half-term, we will be diving into some exciting collage work in art. If you have any old newspapers or magazines sitting in your recycling bins at home, please drop them our way! We would be incredibly grateful for any donations.
Calling All Real-Life Superheroes!
To tie in with our 'Superheroes' topic, we are planning a very special afternoon for our Reception class on Friday 19th June from 1:45pm – 3:15pm, and we’d love YOUR help!
We are inviting any parents who work as key workers—such as firefighters, police officers, postal workers, doctors, nurses, paramedics, or anyone in a vital frontline role—to come in and talk to the children about the amazing work you do. The children are learning all about real-life superheroes, and who better to hear from than the people who keep our communities safe, healthy, and running smoothly?
Can you join us? If you are available, we’d be so grateful if you could bring in something to share: maybe a uniform, some photos, or tools you use in your job to help bring your stories to life!
How to let us know: Please email Miss Godden or catch one of us at the door if you are available to join the fun. The children (and staff!) would be absolutely thrilled to hear from you!
Thank you as always for your continued support, and we can't wait to see all of the children's smiling faces tomorrow morning!
Many thanks,
Miss Godden and The Reception Team
