Jesse and Edith blew Mr. Spracklen's socks off on Friday! They both read to him and he was soooooo impressed that he not only gave them a gold Head Teacher sticker, but also a golden token for the Keen Bean Reading Machine! Wow! Well done!

Half Term Home Learning

BLP - Building Learning Powers

At the Prince of Wales School we believe passionately about building learning powers. These are a set of powers that each child will develop and grow throughout their time at our school. Last half term we met Reggie the Resilient Tortoise. This half term we will be meeting Rose the Resourceful Spider.

See you all tomorrow!

Reception - 1st week back after half term!

Never underestimate what a child can do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were astounded at how fantastically well ALL the children returned to school following 2 weeks holiday! Running through the door, smiling faces and completely ready to learn!

Unfortunately, we were invaded by a pirate crew who stole Donna and Dave, along with a bowl full of golden coins!!!!!! We wrote messages on scrolls to the pirates as well as creating posters to put around the school, describing this terrible crew. We have designed various boats and ships from all sorts of materials and then tested them to see which ones floated. We also used our curious science brains to ask "I wonder........" and "maybe........" questions and ideas to think about why huge boats could float and also to think about which materials were best at floating when we designed our boats. The children enjoyed experimenting and were particularly enthused by our whole class experiment to investigate surface tension! This stimulated lots of discussion and thinking. There have also been some incredible paintings of pirate ships and pirates, with great attention to detail and colour choice. Ofcourse, we are also learning various pirate songs, sharing pirate stories and were enrolled as the new crew on Captain Johnson's ship today following our Pirate PE!!!!!!!

A reminder that EVERY THURSDAY we will be changing the children's library books - so please return them each Thursday.

Today we enjoyed a celebration of bonfire night by toasting marshmellows on the campfire at forest school and singing campfire songs.

We successfully launched our 3 different RWInc phonic groups this week, based upon prior assessment. Children in some groups will bring a RWInc book home with them tomorrow - this should be kept at home for the week and returned EVERY Friday. If your child does not bring one home, please do not be worried - all children grasp phonics at different points - they WILL get there! Most importantly we do NOT want to rush children, our aim is that ALL children feel secure, confident and above all, successful in their phonic knowledge. We are very proud of all our children, they are trying so hard!

Tomorrow, you will also receive a copy of the new Prince of Wales EYFS Curriculum.

If any families or individuals are struggling for any reason during this next lock down - whether it is financially, with health difficulties or with mental health issues, please do not hesitate to contact us either by email or at drop off/pick up. We are most definitely a community here and we are here to help! We can weather this storm together and stand united with you all! Not only are your children at the heart of everything we do, you matter to us too!

Big hugs,

Mrs. J, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hibberd.

Whole School Design Challenge - 15th October 2020

#InspiredToLearn Half Term Holiday Design Challenge

“Lest We Forget”

This half term holiday we would like you to have a go at making your own single poppy, we will attach these to a wreath that we will be making in school.  The wreath will be placed at the town war memorial by some of our older children after half term as an act of remembrance for all those that gave their lives in conflict.

Design Specification:

- Your Poppy can be made of any material, clay, cardboard, felt, polymer clay, paper, recycled materials, etc.

- Your Poppy should be 3D, rather than flat.

- Your Poppy must be bigger than 5cm but smaller than 12cm in width.

- Your Poppy does not have to be red, in recent years we have used other colours to represent other groups of people who have given their lives in service of our country.  You could research these groups and decide what colour you would like to make.

- Your Poppy could have a loop or hook which will enable it to be attached easily to our wreath.

- Please write your name and year group neatly somewhere on your Poppy.

Please hand your Poppy in to your class teacher by Wednesday 4th November for its inclusion on our collaborative act of remembrance.

Reception notices and reminders Thursday 1st October 2020

Good Morning to you all,

A few notices and reminders: TOMORROW is "dress like a farmer day" so children may like to come in dressed up.

NEXT FRIDAY would traditionally have been our Harvest Celebration assemblies. This will still be available to you but in a virtual way. Watch this space for further information on how you will be able to access it. Any donations for the food bank would be greatly received outside the front of the school next Friday.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to reschedule our Farm visit to NEXT THURSDAY morning.

Please can we ask that children do NOT bring toys in from home. They can be a distraction during learning time and also it is distressing for children if they lose them. Thank you for your support in this matter.

Another reminder to, please, label ALL items - this makes it so much easier to reunite them with their owners!

Finally, I will be re-handing out Marvelous Me parent codes to those of you who have not yet signed up.

Thank you for all the amazing home learning that has been coming in in a variety of different mediums.

Thanks to you all!

See you later,

Mrs. J, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hibberd

Reception Home Learning Friday 25th September 2020

                                                               Reception Home Learning

Friday 25th September 2020

Choose an activity and record it how you wish - writing, drawing, filming or send in photographs!

  • Go for a walk in the woods and collect objects that are a sign of Autumn

  • Collect conkers or leaves and make a picture out of them or can you count them?

  • Make a lovely Autumn vegetable soup - can you count the vegetables? What words can you think of - peel, chop, slice, dice, mash, blend, spice, delicious, scrumptious…..

  • Draw or paint a picture of something to do with a farm

  • Teach your family how to sing the song “Old Macdonald had a Farm”

Have fun! By all means do something completely different but inspired by Autumn and Harvest - we intend to display all the homelearning at the Harvest Celebration display.

Praise Assembly

A HUUUUUUUGE congratulations to Cecily and Harry who received a golden token reward for the Keen Bean Reading Machine! These 2 children should be very proud of themselves. Personal qualities that they have displayed have blown us away this week!!!!!!!!

Oliver, Alex, Evie and Imogen were also celebrated and praised for excellent listening and being kind, caring and friendly towards others. Well done!

Have a great weekend and we cannot wait for another exciting week!
