Reception - A New Look Classroom...

Hello everyone,

Just to keep everyone updated with how the reception classroom works are going on at the moment... Firstly, a big thank you to everyone that came in on Thursday to help with some sanding! This is now ready for some covering and then ultimately... painting!  Hopefully you will see this being completed as we go through next week. At this point I must give a massive thank you to Mr. Bascombe, our Caretaker in school - who has taught me so much about plumbing and paint already!
There are lots more changes that are going to be happening over the next couple of weeks also. The picture above (whilst not to scale) gives you an idea of what the classroom may well look like once all the work is done! We believe this will give an enabling environment for all your children to learn and be successful in. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to come and ask us.

Reception - Phonics

Image result for phonics

Hello everyone,

As it has been a while since my last post about phonics I have put below all the sounds that we have covered since the beginning of term! We have nearly finished all the sounds that we will cover this year. At this point we will start recapping them and extending the length of words. We will also be ensuring children are confident seeing the sounds in words and sentences. Again, below the sounds I have also put a list of words that you may wish to try and write at home with your children! Please bring in all efforts!
So here are the sounds!

'oa' - as in goat - raise hand to your mouth as if shocked saying 'oa' 'oa' 'oa'
'oo' - as in boot - move head back and forth pretending to be a cuckoo clock going off
'oo' - as in book - same as above
'ar' - as in farm - look up and open mouth like you are at the dentist saying 'ar' 'ar' 'ar'
'or' - as in fork - same action as 'ee'. move hands above ears saying 'eeyore' eeyore' 'eeyore'
'ur' - as in hurt - hold knee as if you have hurt it saying 'ur' 'ur' 'ur'
'ow' - as in cow - hold finger as if hurt and say 'ow' 'ow' 'ow'

and here are some words for you to have a go at writing!

town
farmyard
food
fur
toast
pork

Reception - A Letter From a Tiger?

Hello everyone,

We have received a letter... from the Tiger! After writing some fantastic invitations, asking him to come back to tea, he has replied! He has said that he would love to come back to our school on Friday 26th January for a Tiger Tea! Needless to say we are all very excited! We have planned how we are going to teach him some manners as well as discussing what we could possibly give him that would fill him up! The ideas were wide ranging from a roast dinner to salad! A letter will be coming home tomorrow about our plans for the Tiger Tea.

Reception - What a Mess!!

Image result for tiger who came to tea

Hi all,

we came back into our classroom today to find a bit of a mess! There was food, pots and pans and teapots all over the place! After a bit of discussion - in which there were all sorts of people and things blamed for the mess - we carried out some super writing! Some children write down who they thought had made the mess whilst others helped to make a shopping list so I could go out and replace some of the items!
Then... After a strange knock at the door we were left 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' story. After reading the story we concluded that it must have been the Tiger who had made the mess earlier this morning!! We spoke about how we need to teach the Tiger some manners and then set about making some filling meals for the Tiger to eat instead of our food!
We are now going to exploring the topic of 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' for the next few weeks. There will be lots of exciting things to do and we will keep you updated with the developments.

Also - we carried out our first Daily Mile this morning. We had some very keen children who wanted to run along for large parts of it! All children completed this really really well! Pictures to follow!

Reception - New year, New Beginnings

Image result for happy new year

Hello everyone,

Firstly, happy new year! I hope you all had a fantastic break and I look forward to hearing all the things you have been up to as well as some of the things that Father Christmas may have bought down the chimney!
As the new year begins, there will be a few changes to what happens during the day over the next couple of weeks - all the information will be shared with you as we introduce things. Of course, we are always available to answer questions or discuss things with you. One of the things that will be starting this week, and you may have heard of, is 'The Daily Mile'. The aim of the Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of children – regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances. The daily mile is simple. we will have 20 minutes set aside in our day where we will go around a course in the school grounds. It will be stressed that this is NOT a race. There is no need to bring anything in to school for this. We will keep you updated with this as we develop it through the rest of the year.
There is a newsletter coming home on Wednesday about lots of other information. There is also a parent information session on Monday 8th January in the school hall. It would be lovely to see as many of you there as possible!
