Hello Reception Families!
I hope you have all had a Merry Christmas and we wish you a all wonderful New Year! We know it has been a long time since the last update but Reception are back online and I just wanted to share with you some of are marvelous learning and experiences from the end of Autumn term!
I am going to jump straight in because this will probably be a long one but I hope you enjoy seeing lots of smiles on our journey towards 2024 Christmas!
Kickstarting our lead up to Christmas, we had our first visit to the Dorchester Library! As a whole school, we are passionate about books and want to encourage a board range of reading and this inspired us to take a trip to our local library to explore how and where to access lots of amazing books. During our trip we had a tour of the library as well as a demonstration on how to take out a book using our library cards! We also had lots of fun doing a book character hunt and listening to the story 'Funnybones' from the librarians.
During one of our assemblies we had the privilege to see a brilliant Kickboxing demonstration! Reception got stuck in and bravely volunteered, learning some amazing new skills.
Kickstarting Christmas, Reception embraced the story The Jolly Postman! We set up our own post office in the Reception classroom and has lots of fun writing Christmas letter, delivering presents and weighing Christmas packages.
Diving into the season of Winter, we have had lots of fun exploring the effects of the cold weather and enjoying the snow and ice.
And well timed with the Snow Day, Reception had their class Pajama Party! We spent the morning playing in the snow but had a very cosy afternoon playing team games and watching a movie with lots of popcorn!
I would also like to say a huge thank you for the amazing turn out for our Family Reading afternoons this half term! The children were so excited for the weekly 'book snuggle' and had lots of fun sharing stories with friends and families during these sessions.
Christmas is always an exciting time at POW and of course Reception made the most of this. We embraced Christmas Jumper day, aced Christmas Craft Day and decorated the classroom from top to bottom!
Continuing with more Christmas festivities, Reception visited the local church St Marys. I am so proud of all children on this visit. During the trip, all children thoroughly embraced POW's School Learning powers by showing respect, resilience and resourcefulness throughout all activities.
And of course to finish, I just wanted to share some of the WOW Work and smiliest moments we captured this half term!
If you have managed to get this far then I just wanted to express how proud I am of Reception this half term. There were many more photos and many more memories we have made and I look forward to being back online and being able to share these with you moving forward! Please keep posted for the blog coming out at the end of this week to hear about what's to come in in Spring term and please do not hesitate to get in touch if there is anything you would like to discuss or any support we can offer.
Well done for such a brilliant return to school and have a lovely week,
Miss Godden, Mrs Rogers, Mr Long and Mrs Smith.
