Concerns over parking

As you are all aware, the school is fortunate to have a wide range of parking areas in its proximity. Due to the school's opening time, there is sufficient time for all parents and carers to access the  school grounds with their child in a safe manner.

Yet again it has come to the school's attention of what has been described as dangerous driving and also parking which is obstructing pedestrian walkways and crossings. This cannot continue.

We ask all members of our school community to follow the markings and ultimately think about road safety for our families too. Only a few months ago was there an accident outside a school in Weymouth.

The governing body are now looking into further action to be taken, the local Police team are also aware of this issue and are providing assistance with this matter.

Thank you.

Reception - Learning journey morning tomorrow!

Image result for tomorrow

Hello everyone,

A reminder that tomorrow morning will be another opportunity for you to come in and look at your child's learning journey with them. It will hopefully give you the opportunity to see what we have been learning and to ask any questions about your child's learning. As previously mentioned we will attempt to arrange these mornings on a range of days to give everyone the opportunity to attend.
We always value any feedback about what you think we could include in the learning journeys as well as what you feel works well currently!

Reception - Home learning

Image result for easter

Hello everyone,

It has been a few weeks since the last blog about home learning so I thought it was about time there were some more ideas for you to have a go at! Please remember that although the home learning is not compulsory, we love seeing what you have been up to so please feel free to bring it into school!
This weeks ideas are centered around Spring, Growing and Easter:

  • During Spring lots of animals have babies. Can you find out the names of these baby animals? duck, pig, sheep, cow and horse.
  • Hetty the Hen had 10 eggs. On Monday 4 eggs hatched. How many eggs were left to hatch? You could draw your answer.
  • Draw a picture of a flower. Remember to include a stem, some petels and some leaves on your flower!
  • Eggs starts with the 'e' sound. What other things can you think of that start with the 'e' sound?
  • Can you find out the life cycle of a frog, a hen or a butterfly? Present this however you would like to!
We look forward to seeing what comes into school!

Reception - Pie face

Hello everyone,

Just a quick note to say a massive (and not sarcastic at all!) thank you for all the pies thrown after school this evening! I had been told by several children throughout the day that they were going to get me. And they definitely did!
It was great to see so many people there! Although towards the end, I couldn't really see very much at all. Thank you also to all the other members of staff that took part. I probably owe some biscuits. Once we know how much was raised throughout the day we will let you know! Thank you for contributing all that you did for Red Nose Day 2017.

Reception - Maiden Castle Farm

Hello everyone,

As you will have realised this morning, we did not manage to go on our trip to the farm today! Unfortunately the weather dictated this with its rather miserable attitude.
Fortunately, we have been able to arrange another date with Hazel at the farm. The new date for your diaries is Thursday 27th April. A letter will come home nearer the time.

Reception - This week....

Image result for this week...

Hello everyone,

This week has already proved to be a very busy week. Many of you may have noticed Amanda in the classroom. This will be the situation until Mrs. Howell returns after Easter. I know Mrs. Howell would like to say a bi thank you to everyone for the card and flowers that she received on Thursday last week! The children have all been very keen to continue their relationships with Amanda from when they were at pre-school!
Back to this week! We are due to go to the farm tomorrow morning. As usual, please come to school with wellies, coats and play clothes on your bottom half. This time, the trip to the farm will be looking at spring and what happens on a farm at this time of the year. We will hopefully have some good pictures to share with you. Thank you to everyone that has volunteered to help with the trip.
Also this week we have red nose day on Friday. A letter has already gone out explaining that children can wear red clothes on this day along with a funny accessory. Please consider donating what you can to the Comic Relief cause. At the end of the day on Friday there will be a 'Pay for a Pie' station where some brave members of staff will be waiting for you to throw a 'pie' at them! Again, this is to help raise money.
Also, this week and next week you may be aware that we are taking part in 'The Big Pedal' event. This encourages as many children as possible to ride either a bike or scooter into school. Lots of you went to the 'Bike-it breakfast' this morning too! We are recording the numbers each day. These numbers are then compared locally and we could win a prize!
Finally, just a small note to say that next Friday 31st March there will be another 'Learning Journey morning'  in school first thing from 8.45-9.30pm. You are welcome to come into school and look through your child's learning journey and stay to play with them too. All the staff will also be hand to answer any questions you may have.

Sustrans Big Pedal - School Assembly today

Sustrans “Big Pedal” – starting next week (lasting a fortnight)

Today in our school assembly we had a visit from Jonathan Dixon, our school’s Sustrans Officer.

Sustrans is an organisation that promotes the use of Bicycles and Scooters.
Jonathan talked to the children about how to make sure their cycling helmets are fitted properly. He then introduced a special Sustrans event taking place over the next fortnight.
Next Monday sees the start of “The Big Pedal”.
We will be recording the number of journeys to and from school made on Bicycles and Scooters. The data is then used in a national and local competition to see which schools are able to get the greatest percentages of Bicycle and Scooter use during the fortnight.
In the last three years, we have done very well in this event and have been among the local prize-winners.
On Tuesday 21st March we are holding a “Bike It Breakfast”. All children that come to school by Bicycle or Scooter will be given a breakfast snack, fruit and a drink.

Reception - Learning this week

Image result for spring

Hello everyone,

This week we have been introducing a topic that we will be continuing with until the end of the term. This will be centered around Spring, growing & Easter. Over the next few weeks we will be paying especially close attention to what is going to be changing all around us and what will continue to change as we trudge ever closer to the summer! We will begin our learning by looking at plants and vegetables to see how they start to grow and we have been busy planting in the garden outside the reception classroom. We will then move on to how life changes and grows! The Hungry Caterpillar book will be used as well as other stories and information books. Next week we have our farm visit too so this will help to show children how life on a farm moves with the seasons! There will also be an opportunity for children to learn about Easter and its meaning to the Christian religion. Busy, busy, busy!!!

Reception - Assembly lines

Image result for learning lines

Hello everyone,

Just a quick message to say that assembly were sent home yesterday! These are for you to do any practise you can with your children. The extra repetition does help children become more confident when it comes to saying their line in the assembly. Children will not be expected to remember their assembly line off by heart and we will have adults at the front of the hall to assist if they forget parts. Thank you for any help you give with this! Our assembly is this Friday 10th March at 9.20am. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Reception - Class assembly

Hello everyone,

Firstly, big well done to all the reception children for conducting themselves so well today. We went all over the school after a rather strange start to the day... I'm sure your children can tell you all about it! All the children returned enthusiastic to share what it is they had been up to. This work will be displayed in the corridor of the school this week! So please pop along to have a look if you get the time.
On to the important fact that this Friday is reception's second class assembly! It will begin at 9.20am in the hall and you are all invited to come along! Please feel free to head to the hall after drop off. We look forward to sharing all the things we have been up to so far this term. Assembly words will be handed out tomorrow for you to practise at home. Any assistance with this is greatly appreciated.

Reception - World Book Day

Image result for world book day

Hello everyone,

Firstly, I would like to say... what a fantastic collection of costumes we had today! Some really inventive designs out there! Congratulations to Evie. P who won the reception best dressed award in assembly! Thank you to everyone at home that helped to make costumes!
It has been a really great day with lots of things going on! Throughout, the children were enthusiastic, keen and full of energy! Some of the things we did were make Book Nooks, design new book covers, write our favourite characters or stories, make a book rug and read several stories!
But of course, reading should not be celebrated on only 1 day a year... Please continue to talk to your children about books, buy new books (let us know of any good ones), read together, add funny voices, discover new words and worlds and, most importantly, ENJOY reading.

P.S We will all be dressed normally again tomorrow.
