Sound pots...

Hi all,

As we are getting nearer and nearer to the end of the year we are going to begin collecting things in and sending things home! The first thing we will start collecting in this week will be the sound pots that we gave out at the beginning of the year to children. It would be helpful if you could put it into your child's book bag so we can collect it. Thank you.
We will continue sending home group reading books for another week but next week will be the last week that we send group reading books home. The library will, of course, still be there should you want to go and get some books to read at home.
Bits and pieces will also start to go home with your child. There is an open afternoon on the 18th July where you can come in to school from 2pm to collect possessions and work. More will follow on this.

BBQ Next Tuesday

Hello everyone!

We are entering our final week of work looking at Mr. Men but there is still plenty to do! Today we had to be a set of detectives to try and work out who a suitcase belongs to! There were some very strange possessions inside; a biscuit, an apple, a police hat and a train to name a few! We'll be continuing to investigate throughout the week so watch this space!
Today, children will have come home with a letter about the BBQ that is taking place after school next Tuesday to act as a final part of the transition for the pre-school as well as an opportunity to celebrate the year in reception! It would be very helpful if you could return the slip and the voluntary contribution to help us with providing the correct amount of food for everyone. There will be burgers (that we are making in school), sausages, chicken kebabs and vegetable kebabs. If there are any dietary requirements that we might not be aware of, please let us know so we can make sure there is something for everyone! We are desperately hoping for good weather but if the worst does happen we will give you as much notice as we can and attempt to move it to another date in the remaining weeks.

Finally - as a quick heads up - next week will be a whole school themed week centering around Rio and the Olympics. On the Friday (8th July) we will be having a 'carnival' that parents are invited to attend! More information will follow.

Well Done!

Hi all,

Just a quick message to say well done to all the reception children for their super efforts in the last class assembly yesterday morning! They were all super and delivered their lines with such confidence. I'm sure you will agree that they have all grown in character and personality since September and I have no doubt that they will continue to do so. Thank you to everyone that came to watch.
Also, Thank you for all the food supplied yesterday for the class party lunch! There was an awful lot. If you brought in any tubs or trays, these will be available to collect on Monday from the back of the classroom. Thank you and have a lovely weekend.

Class assembly and party tomorrow!

Hello everyone,

As I'm sure you're all aware it is the reception class assembly tomorrow morning. You are all invited to come! It will start at 9.20am so feel free to head straight through to the hall after drop off to enjoy the last reception assembly of the year!
After the assembly we will be having out class party. Thank you to everyone that has signed up to bring in some food tomorrow for our party lunch. As previously mentioned, the hot dinners for this day have been cancelled. We'll also play some games and maybe watch something! Children are also welcome to bring a teddy of their choice into school for the day.

Finally, just to conform that it is NOT a non-school uniform day tomorrow and children will need to be in their school uniforms as normal. Thank you.

Brilliant Sports Morning!

Hi all,

Thank you to all of those who managed to make it to the sports morning this morning. I believe that all the children did themselves very proud! They were super throughout and fully deserved their dinner this evening! Thank you for all the support you showed! The children will also have come home with a certificate. There will hopefully be some pictures up on the board tomorrow morning for you to look at.

Sports day tomorrow!

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow, we are planning to press ahead with the Reception and Key Stage 1 sports morning! The weather is supposed to be much improved on today. If we do have to cancel, then we will try to give you as much notice as we can.
So tomorrow morning the children's PE kits will be out on their tables - any help with changing will be much appreciated but most children are pretty independent in this now! After that you are welcome to stay at school and head straight outside onto the playground where there will be chairs set out for you to sit on. Reception will be doing skills activities on the playground and then races up on the field. We are usually all outside by 9.30am.
Please can you ensure that children have lots to drink tomorrow. We will of course fill bottles up throughout the day! Thank you.

Finally, we have been practising our class assembly today ready for this Friday at 9.20am! Thank you to the practise that has already been going on at home! It helps massively.

Assembly lines

Hello everyone,

Today, lots of children will have come home with their assembly lines. It would be very much appreciated if you could do any practising at home ready for next Friday. Some children may not have lines due to the fact that they are doing lots of acting instead!

Also, a letter will have come today about our class party next Friday. We are planning to have a picnic lunch in the classroom on this day. To help with this, it would be very helpful if you could bring in a contribution - much like at Christmas. There is a list outside the classroom door listing different foods! Also for our class party children will be allowed to bring in a teddy or soft toy for the day. Thank you!

This weeks news...

Hello everyone,

This week we are continuing with our theme of Mr. Men. Some fantastic home learning brought into school today so thank you! In literacy this week we'll be having a go at writing character profiles for some different Mr. Men and Little Miss characters. This is all building up to writing a story with Mr. Men. We'll also continue to practise and learn 'The Gingerbread Man'. At the moment this sits quite separate from Mr. Men but the two will eventually intertwine.
In maths this week we're continuing to count in 5's and 10's. We're getting pretty good at the 10's now so ask children to tell you them! As well as this we'll be continuing to develop our addition and subtraction skills and begin to partition numbers in very simple ways! High-tech stuff! This will be done in the context of some word problems.
As well as all this we'll be making little mini-pizzas this week! They are inspired by Mr. Happy so have all got happy faces on. These will be eaten at school and all children will get the chance to make one.

A few notices:

  • Next Tuesday (21st) is the reception sports morning. This starts at 9.30am and you are all welcome to attend. Please feel free to stay from drop-off.
  • Next Friday (24th) is our class assembly so again, you are all invited to this! It will be the last one in reception!

The Queen's tea party 10/6/16

We had a lovely whole school Queen’s tea party on Friday 10th June. Preschool also joined us for this event, the whole school stood and sang the National anthem, and of course ‘ Happy Birthday’ too before tucking into the delicious cakes you all generously sent in.

Unfortunately then the rain paid us a visit, however before long we were able to venture back outside to complete the event by playing some ‘Royal based party games.

I would like to thank all the Yr 3 and 4 pupils for being so helpful in collecting tables and chairs from across the school supported by our adultsto enable the event to happen. The children were also very helpful in supporting the younger children at the tea party. It really showed off the ‘service’ element within our school community, helping others where we can.  Thank you to all who helped make this event special.

Mr. Men home learning

Hello all,

As we have started a new topic, I thought it would be worthwhile to pop a few ideas for some home learning down. As always, we'll show any home learning that comes into school.

  • Name as many Mr. Men and Little Misses as you can.
  • Make up a new Mr. Man/Little Miss
  • If you were a Mr. Man, for one day, who would you be and why?
  • Find out what these words mean: Uppity, Topsy-Turvy, Stubborn and Daydream.
  • Find out how many Mr. Men are squares, triangles or circular.
  • Make a Mr. Happy mask
  • Write down 3 things that make you really.... Happy.
  • What are the opposites of these Mr. Men: Mr. Tall, Mr. Quiet, Mr. Bounce and Mr. Grumpy.
Best of luck and we look forward to seeing all your super home learning.

Welcome back!

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to what is the final term in reception! The mind boggles with how we seem to already be at this point in the year. Fear not though! We have a little while longer to do some (hopefully) fun topic work and enjoy ourselves in the summer sunshine.... (hopefully).
We have come back and sprung into the topic of Mr. Men. It has been something the children have shown an interest in throughout the year and it seems sensible to use this interest to do some learning. This week we'll be looking at a few Mr. Men stories and making some story maps in preparation for writing a story in the weeks to come. We'll also begin learning another story to tell. This time the story will be the Gingerbread Man. We'll be learning this in school this week so please ask children to retell it to you. There are actions that go with it.
In maths this week we'll be learning about writing numbers the correct way round and continuing to apply our addition and subtraction skills in different ways.
For writing this week we'll be doing a bit of recounting about what has happened in the holidays. It was lovely to see so many children coming in to school with diaries/scrapbooks about what they did in the break - some very enviable locations!
Finally, this Friday we will be having a day to celebrate the Queen's 90th Birthday across the school. We'll be teaming up with pre-school again and doing some activities. If you are able to make/bring cake into school for the afternoon tea party we'll be having in school then that would be greatly appreciated. Alternatively, if you're available to help on the day, let us know!
